Dude lays it all out there for the world. I haven't dealt with the stuff he has, but you can feel it in his voice.

Comitted at twenty two
Just to get over you
My belly aches blue
Lorazepam flu
I'm down for the count
Always three times a day
Sometimes four
A bee stings right through the arm
The high swing I ride upon
My eyes can't quite focus on
The nurse with my Lucky Charms
Well a two step was just a laugh
Our boundaries were broke in half
It's a good thing to know
As you walk into group for the show

knock-knock on the window pane
My smoke break, the hour rang
My quiet roommate sleeps the same
Woke up when dinner came
The man's no more than forty old
Arrived scared two days ago
A family of earth and gold
But still nottheless alone
I learned quick. Knew what to say
Then three angels walked my way
In Spanish tongue they knelt to pray
And said "God keep him safe
From screaming voices"
They became my family
Outstretched their hands are on my head
You know, I can feel them breathing
They actually knelt down and prayed for me
They actually knelt down and prayed for me

Don't you dare put me on H.R.S.A
Does self abuse extend your hospital stay?
I think I'll lie a bit
Lord I won't cry over anything
Over anything at all
I won't cry over anything at all

Paul Simon - American Tune (1975)

American Tune lyrics
By Paul Simon
1973

Many's the time I've been mistaken
And many times confused
Yes, and I've often felt forsaken
And certainly misused
But I'm all right, I'm all right
I'm just weary to my bones
Still, you don't expect to be
Bright and bon vivant
So far away from home, so far away from home

And I don't know a soul who's not been battered
I don't have a friend who feels at ease
I don't know a dream that's not been shattered
or driven to its knees
But it's all right, it's all right
For we've lived so well so long
Still, when I think of the road we're traveling on
I wonder what's gone wrong
I can't help it, I wonder what's gone wrong

And I dreamed I was dying
I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly
And looking back down at me
Smiled reassuringly
And I dreamed I was flying
And high up above my eyes could clearly see
The Statue of Liberty
Sailing away to sea
And I dreamed I was flying

We come on the ship they call the Mayflower
We come on the ship that sailed the moon
We come in the age's most uncertain hour
and sing an American tune
But it's all right, it's all right
You can't be forever blessed
Still, tomorrow's going to be another working day
And I'm trying to get some rest
That's all, I'm trying to get some rest

I haven't seen that movie all the way through since childhood, although I've been meaning to recently.  Brings back great memories, although I don't remember that song being played during the movie and didn't know it was Art G either.  Interesting....

Those last two get me the worst at funerals. Amazing Grace is bad enough on bagpipes. It's even worse when you know the words, and understand what they mean, and hear them in your head as you're listening to the pipes.

There's another song - Lord of the Dance - that will really tear me up in the right setting too. We usually do it at church sometime during the Lenten season. Something about singing these songs in a church full of people just hits different.

ETA: apparently I'm too emotionally frail to embed youtube videos.

I watched it again recently, and that song is at a sad part of the movie.  Netflix also had a newer version of it that they did, and it was pretty good, but it's not the original.  I found the original on youtube and downloaded it.  You should also watch Plague Dogs, it's a downer of a movie, but done in the same style as Watership Down.

This, because Dad used to play and sing it fairly often.  When he died and we were trying to choose music it was the first song I thought of but I knew I couldn't make it through the playing of it so we didn't use it.

Simple Man by Shinedown played

And boy did I have to fight back the tears. Just feeling like your trying to carry the world on your shoulders and/or that you feel like you didn't meet all of your parents expectations. And in the Song the he sings about his mother telling him she just wants him to have a good life, none of that other stuff matters.

Shinedown butchered that song and made a fucking mockery of it.
