... that is embedded in the edge of a ruler? I thought I might try some high-end hardwood rulers, but that little inset metal strip that acts as a guide is proving to be elusive. I don't even know what to call it... brass ribbon? Brass strip? Googling 'metal strip on the edge of a ruler' turns up lots of explanations of what rulers are and whatnot, but no parts diagram.  Anybody know what I'm looking for and where to find it? (don't have a shear so slicing down a wider strip probably isn't practical) |

How about embedding an actual steel ruler within an edge slot in the wooden ruler body? The slot could be deep enough to only expose the edge with line markings but not showing numbers. (If that's what you're after, that is - otherwise, you can source sheet brass or stainless stock.) |

I thought about buying some bulk wood rulers and trying to peel out the strip, but I don't know how much luck I'd have with that. Seems like those things only fall out when you don't want them to.
