I was just finishing up getting gas and a blue Ford F-250 pulls up behind me. The driver, white male, dark hair with beard is staring at me. I look at him and he says, Excuse me Sir, can you give me directions to Ft. Collins? I start telling him the directions (I'm standing by my vehicle/gas pumps about 10 foot away from him). He says that he can't hear me (though he could hear me fine at the beginning of the conversation) and to come over to him. I tell him to get out and come over and I'll tell him. He instantly starts screaming and yelling at me calling me a creep and chickenshit before driving off. People are fucking strange. My spidey senses were up, I think he was trying to steal my kidney(s). No plates on his vehicle of course.

I live in downtown Houston. My response to a question from someone like that at a gas station would be “FUCK OFF”. While I blade at 45’ carrying my Colt 1911 .45 in a CrossBreed Super Tuck.

I wasn't carrying. I just finished up deer hunting and needed to get gas for hunting tomorrow and was wearing sweats. My .270 was in the back seat next to me, just a closed door away.

I had the gut feeling that if I walked up to him I would be staring at a barrel of a pistol. The guy was very unstable to say the least.

I don't think you did anything wrong OP. The comment was more about the situation in it's entirety. After having been robbed once and attempts to rob me 3 more times have been made, I tell everyone to fuck off immediately and carry everywhere. "No habla ingles" works wonders for most situations.

I'm not a small guy either. Had two knives and two guns pulled on me. After knife #1 I started carrying all the time and thwarted attempt #2, 3, and 4 by lifting my shirt or drawing (had to draw twice). Desperation doesn't follow logic. The guy may have been totally legit and having a bad day or was completely fucking nuts, we'll never know. I don't leave it to chance and I don't care if I piss them off. There is no benefit of the doubt with me anymore.
