I’m telling you, this guy is legit.

He’s not only good at Xs and Os. He creates a culture that is positive yet expects excellence.  I witnessed it at UW and even before he came to the PNW.

It was a huge get for Bama and my wife and her family were a bit worried with the hire.  I don’t think they have anything to worry about.

Remember the UW kicker post I shared here. He was a non-scholarship player.  He kicked the game winning FG and after the game Deboer offered him a scholarship in front of the team. Their reaction says everything about the culture and team building approach he incorporates into his program.

Damn good coach. Will he be as good as Saban? Extremely doubtful, but that’s not a knock on DeBoer, it’s an nod to Saban’s greatness.

Finally had a chance to rewatch the Georgia- Clemson game.  Remove the 36 yard pass play in the 1st quarter, and the 62 yards on their final drive of the 4th quarter (where UGA was up 34-3), and Clemson had 122 yards offense.  And those two drives accounted for 6 of their 13 first downs.

So, outside of that one play and final drive Clemson had 7 first downs and 122 yards.

The complete ineptitude of the Clemson offense on their first series was shocking to me.  They looked like a JV high school team during their first scrimmage of the season.

I like the play where the Clemson left guard pulled right and the right guard pulled left and met in the middle.

Florida will reportedly start true freshman QB DJ Lagway this Sunday.

Billy Napier hoping that Lagway lighting up Samford (it’ll be hard for him NOT to) will buy him some time.

I read he’s only starting since Mertz has a concussion.

The way the game has changed, at least for the moment, a great coach will have different numbers from eras from the past.  Saban definitely had a good run.

I grew up having to listen to games on the radio.  Cable wasn’t as available at the time, satellite dishes weren’t a thing yet and there was a limit to the amount of tv games a team could appear in per season.  Between streaming and radio, ESPN and cable providers need to keep this pissing match up and see what happens when you go to the well one too many times.

It’s kind of a no win situation.   You’re picked to finish under 500.   You put this kid in and say he plays great.   Gets them to 6-6 possibly.    Then you have 5-10 top 15 teams throwing all kinds of cash at him.

Thank God college football doesn’t do that (yet).  Imagine if one of the two biggest games of the week was only being broadcast on a relatively obscure streaming service less than 10% of college football fans had.

I was very happy with the hire. I think he is a great coach and players respond to him well. He brought a lot of energy with him and I think he will have a lot of success down the road

It's hard to follow the greatest, but I expect him to blaze his own trail and I think he is quite capable of it.

An NFL game featuring 2 of the top 4 favorites to win the NFC is a massive matchup.

A college game where the #7 team is favored by 22 points over an unranked team… not so much.

Meh, every BIG team has to have a game on Peacock.   It’s 5.99 a month.   That’s a damn coffee or beer at the bar.   Anyway I got a deal for 19.99 for a year.   Well worth it for a few football games.

Listening on radio to a good play by play man is still preferable to me than listening to the dribble from tv guys.  But back in the day they could make you feel like it was all happening right in front of you with only words.

Listened to tons of games on the radio back in the 70s & 80s.

One that sticks out is the FSU/Nebraska game I listened to in 1980.
