I don’t know about its utility as a police vehicle, but I kinda want one with that towing package.

My department can buy a crew cab 4x4 F-150 through state bid for under $30k. It will hold up longer, have better resale value and is generally more useful than any sedan.

Why wouldn't they buy this over a sedan at nearly the same cost? Not to mention the only real PPV option left in sedans is the Charger.

We get into pursuits daily at my agency, in an suburban/rural county BTW. Not a fan of the sheepdog stuff, people are quite capable of protecting themselves most of the time.

Mine handles like shit.  It might be useful for rabbit cops and officers in very rural areas with a lot of unimproved roads I guess.

There are different tow packages.

A 2021 3.5 Supercrew with the max tow package is rated to tow 13,800 to 14,000 pounds. The 11,200 tow rating the article talks about is the standard tow package rating.

My 2020 3.5 Supercrew FX4 with max tow package tow rating is 12,900 pounds.

What would you rather sit in for 8 hours, an F150, or a Dodge Charger?

That is a rather small element compared to high speed driving stability, maneuverability, etc.  All of which are much better suited to other vehicles than a pickup truck.

Yes, there are rural and off-road needing cops but that is a small percentage.

You’d think they’d make some kind of cargo storage on the sides of the truck bed. Allows you to stash gear that you don’t need floating around in the bed or the cab of the truck. Traffic cones, tape other similar gear. Some of the images show drawers that pull out from the bed, but then you have no bed space for stuff

My work vehicle, a 2008 3500 GMC had one. It's still in the back up pool but when I switched over to a new ride I had over 13000 hours on the engine and I'm betting it's over 14000 now easily if not more. I was closing in on 250K when the new ride came in.

No idea if your state has such a program but if you're in procurement it's definitely worth looking into. We buy everything from vehicles to tires through it and the savings are tremendous.

We already have Chevy Silverado 4x4's and have just started getting the Fords.  The guys with Fords really like them.  One nice thing is they have a half cage in the back so they can still put their shit in the backseat.

Another plus is you can buy 3 fully equipped pick-ups for the price of 2 Tahoes.  And when you're dealing with a fleet of over 3 hundred rides that adds up.

The decision to get pickups is made administrators that won't be doing patrol. Pickups suck for general patrol work.

Almost the same here. Some of the roads I travel on are so beat down from all the farming and construction traffic that I thought I was going to bend/break a wheel on some of the pot holes in my little Escape with the 18” wheels. The Ranger with some meatier 65 series tires in 17” wheels handles it better.

So glad that Governor Grandma is putting that gas tax hike to good use. *facepalm*

I disagree...we have several, along with Explorers, and everyone who has a F150 loves them for daily use. I worked out of a 2010 Supercab 4x4 for several years on patrol and had zero issues with it as a patrol unit. The unmarked 2018 I am in now is even better.

My 2007 FX2 5.4L  is rev limited to 100 MPH.  Maybe it's because it's got a tall gear in the back for towing.
