We got several of the bases for the tiers cut out. https://i.imgur.com/IBCdp8t.jpg Groups started working to turn our skeletons into Vikings. They were adding epoxy to the faces and arms to flesh them out. https://i.imgur.com/4GVctNt.jpg This group was super excited to work on the dragon. They pulled off the flat sides of the skull so we could trace around them to start sculpting foam. Several students asked when they could come in on their own time to work more. That's pretty cool. https://i.imgur.com/pagmssJ.jpg We got a 24" base cut out for the tower, along with 18" tower sections and 22" top of tower sections. Our former SRI officer stopped by today to say hi. He helped with the dragon, years ago. He had an idea of using a fake alligator print to cover our new scales. We will have to see if we can find something that is not too pricy. Cutting it up into pieces that are like one foot square in size and applying them over the drawing board would look pretty amazing. The lights and plastic would fill in between. |

Ever wonder how the Vikings rowed across the North Atlantic and not freeze to death? There was a group that replicated their clothes and tested them. They actually out performed most modern outfits. So how about a viking "smoke jumper" dressed in Viking clothes? A lot of the items could be replicated.

Off to the side, get some paint and taxidermy students involved - paint the face of Odin on the ceiling glowering down and two stuffed ravens hanging down, circling around him, maybe?
BTW, guns, what was that mailing address for donations/shipments/gag gifts? |

Back then you'd show a thread of middle and then ending touch ups and asking what to add. It wasn't until the Stagecoach that there was an "official build thread" that stayed as detailed as these have grown into, and how they have grown! Simply amazing students and progress reports. Any word on the tablet walk-throughs and overview/story in each display cove? A build slideshow and added media of recognition and original vision/reasons and the like? Maybe some power point as an assignment for the multimedia or equivalent classes? Get all total artsy on it so museums have to upgrade to keep up with the high school art department. --ETA: Welcome, France! 🇫🇷 |

Your class should count as 2 or even 3. Wood shop intro, project management, and art from painting to sculpting and building is all encompassed and even some Home Ec and random other things people need to know. Have the other teachers challenged their students a bit to match? The kids you have are clearly intelligent and keen enough to rise to any reasonable challenge instead of getting board. Don't want to run the risk of burning them out, hard to do at the same time though. |

Real interested to see what happens with the carvings/relief engravings. That's some really intricate stuff, like a Dremel small ball and a couple hundred hours level of detail..

For the carving, would it be better to use a solid piece of wood instead of plywood?
I don't know. Just wondering. You could add the additional pieces of wood to the outside surfaces of the plywood. |

If they could break the carving down into deep, middle and high areas, the router could mark those out with a 1/8" bit and a day of time. Then it would be up to them to Dremel or hand carve out the finger bits of relieve detail and bevel the joins between the two different level the ShopBot cut. They'd first need to scan it and make the dimensioned 3D model of what they want the ShopBot to do, which is the hardest part. If they can get over that hump it'd be a little easier. Doing carvings on a larger scale but the same concept could be done by hand and plunge router, unless router decides to take off in some random direction, which is usually what they do when you need to be precise. |

The majority of jobs in that topic will be automated. Maybe teach shop teacher to draw and make a 3D print on one of the printers. The once he has tat down, get him to the router control program and make sure he understand that is flipped form 3D? printing, now it's subtracting material instead of adding it. Shouldn't be too hard. Usually the big hurdle is getting a dimension drawing/model that comes out of print just fine. I suppose 3D printing the various dragons and scales and then gluing them onto the side of the keel so they look engraved might work. Just need to match the keel color on the plastic. |

guns, have you considered painting the floor?
In the Army, we would take entire classrooms and turn them into walkable sand tables, a 2-D map of the space we would occupy, but large enough to walk on. It made a great briefing tool, in this case you could perhaps show England & Scotland in relation to Norway and the Dutch province of Denmark. You could let the History & Geography classes get really nerdy w/ it and use different colors for different eras, such as orange for the Viking raids and Red for the Nazi occupation of Norway & the Netherlands, and the British raids on Norway and Holland. |
