Thinking the AK103 is the platform that Saiga sporters are built on.

I want an Arsenal, but it's been a slow learning process for myself.

My first AK was an SGL-31 and then later got the SGL-21 to complete the set. The brake most definitely tames the felt recoil without having an excessive, annoying side blast that most other brakes do. I like mine so much I even got the pricey AK-103 mags to go along with it and use them all the time. Both also sport the same Holosun 503GU red dot and RS Regulate mounts. Never any issues with either rifle and setup.

Had a legit Saiga AK-103 clone. Sold it years ago.
Don’t miss it |

I just sold a Saiga 7.62 with the 100 series front installed from Izhmash. I converted to buttstock and pistolgrip. It was close enough to an AK103 for my plinking purposes. Ymmv. View Quote There are some others that came in with slab side receivers lacking dimples, or heavier/longer profile barrels, or pinned barrel components - things that are typically not seen on 74M series variants and yet made it onto the Saiga sporters. It's splitting hairs at some point, but really the closest thing to the 103 to come into the US have been the folding stock SGL-21 models which are pretty rare at this point. All of the Saigas are based more or less on 74M series design elements otherwise - certain features are unique to the 74M series, like the replaceable camming pin, press-dimpled (vs pinned) barrel components, etc. You could spend all day going over which parts are "correct" and which are not. |

I saw new production AK103s carried by soldiers in Egypt on several occasions, and brand spanking new Scorpion Evos with the police The AK100 series rifles aren't like the AK74M, they ARE the 74M - in different calibers. It would be beyond cool to get an AK104 in 6.5g, or even an AKSU. Damn, that would be tits https://zenphotos.net/ZenPhotos/File/Online/SVD/optics/1P87MagPBS-1_AK103_AuzieRight01.jpg View Quote |

I have an SLR107FR, it has the triangle side folder, with a plum grip and handguards.
I’ve actually considered modernizing it a bit, but haven’t gotten around to it. I really wish there were plum bakelite mags in 7.62. ETA: Attached File |

I will always curse that I was too young to buy one when SGL21 and 31s were cheap and plentiful

The Saigas and SGLs are built differently than the real military versions. The most modern AK-100 platforms have no block pins, they are dimpled onto the barrel. Pretty sure the feed block is different as well. But they are very close.

I confess: I wish I bought these 5.45 & cases of ammo when it was stoopid-cheap. I have 7.62x39, but 5.45 is more funner.

What's more fun about a 5.45 AK?
Gotta be honest, my UF 7.62 with just a slant brake will hurt your damn cheek and shoulder after a few mags it seems. Maybe it's the recoil thing you guys are talking about. Never shot a 5.45 AK |

Damn I want one of those.
I wish Arsenal would make some and ship them here. Any of the SLRs in 762 or 545 would be great, or 74s. I'd take either. If not, hopefully PSA will get the message and start pumping out some 74 clones or SLR clones. |

I remember buying a non-used complete poly folder set in 2010, then buying an SGL-31 specifically to send to have it installed.
Then the SGL with the side folder was introduced by Arsenal several months later. No regrets though! By the way, thanks TX-Zen for all your years of hard work and also for the correct bakelite PG you sent me when I got my Krink! |

I like mine
Lucked out on the SGL. Couldn't pass it up when they blew them out for $500. Never wound up shooting it. Most likely never will since I have the Bulgy Attached File |
