How nobody has mentioned "THE THING From another world" 1951 ???

Its use of seclusion, tension and suspense without much creature sightings is excellent.  It sets the stage for many sci-fi classics including Alien and of course the 1982 remake by John Carpenter which was perhaps the best remake ever as it did not destroy the classic nor did it dissapoint with tension despite its use of visuals.

The use of a full auto M2 Carbine is a nice nostalgic touch.

Going with this.  Music was pretty good also.  If you haven't seen the rare "full" version of "The Thing" which includes the alcohol-fueled bondage scene (seriously!) with Capt. Hendry and Nikki, maybe you should reconsider your vote for any other movie.

Kinda surprised nobody mentioned "Invaders From Mars" and "Invasion Of The Body-Snatchers".

I could go on but I won't. I have many of the movies mentioned here on DVD.
I grew up in the '50's watching monster movies with my Mom.

I love so many of the movies already mentioned, but my favorite is probably Tarantula.

The three that initially popped in my head have already been posted.

Gojira
The Fly
Creature from the Black Lagoon

BUT  "The series of Abbot and Costello meet the..." classic monsters (Frankenstein, Mummy, Dracula, Invisible Man etc.) needs at least an honorable mention.

Magical times for a kid those times, as I also grew up in, those movies and our imagination. Loved them all. We were a part of those. Still watch, and remember better times.

Eastwood's first role in film as an actor came earlier that same year in Revenge of The Creature; second film in the Creature trilogy.

Check out Ricou Browning, who played the underwater scenes as the Creature in all 3 movies. He went on to have a great career in Hollywood; involved with a couple 60's James Bond films, was co-creator/producer in the movie Flipper and kept writing and directing in the TV series, and other films too many to list.

I remember reading an interview decades ago with Van Morrison. He was asked where his mid 1960s band got their name Them from. He said it was from the movie, had never heard of it until then.

First Man Into Space (1959).

A test pilot takes a plane too high, into space in fact, where he's exposed to mysterious cosmic dust.

He returns to Earth and is transformed into a ghastly terrifying cock-eyed spasbo who shambles around the countryside killing women and cows and drinking their blood.

Good for chills and laughs and actually some pretty graphic death scenes for the time.

Not of This Earth 1957 - Roger Corman's first.

The 80s version scared the shit out of me like when I was 8 or 9. Spending the night at my cousins house. All of us laying down on the living room floor on top of a bunch of blankets. I didn't sleep at all that night.

Wasn't that stuff fun?  I remember doing that with MY cousins and brothers as a little kid in the 60's and 70's.  We'd read the TV Guide each week and if there was a good movie coming up we'd all do a sleep-over.

Some of our favorites were "The Haunting" (The '63 Robert Wise version), "House On Haunted Hill" ('59 Vincent Price version), "The Blob" , "Them" and "The Head/Brain That Wouldn't Die"(That monster in the closet that ripped the dude's arm off terrified me)! lol  Mom would make popcorn and cookies and we'd all lay there on those blankets enjoying having the crap scared out of us.
