There’s a few “rare variant” low miles cars that go for huge money, this 997 GT3 below being a perfect example. Frankly I think it’s ridiculous but there seems to be plenty of money chasing Porsches. The weekend before last, my wife and I were out for a morning drive in the Cayman on Hwy 146 near Kemah and I saw a Lamborghini and a Ferrari gradually coming up in the rearview. I slowed a bit, as we were already doing just under the speed limit and saw another Lamborghini and then a McLaren and more Lamborghinis and more Ferraris. I ended up turning around to follow them after they turned down Grand in Bacliff and headed towards Bayshore park. They ended up at a restaurant parking lot at Pier 6 in San Leon. It was awesome to see so many cool cars while out on a random morning drive. I'll see if i can pull some pics from my phone and share them. It turns out it was a group called SW Exotics. We followed them at a distance hoping to take some pictures if the opportunity arose. One moment that I thought was fun was as the procession of exotic cars drove through the community on the two lane divided road, there were a group of young kids standing by the side of the road excitedly pointing and enjoying the sight of the cool car convoy. I enjoyed watching how excited they were as they ogled the spectacle as it passed by and then a few minutes later as we passed them, they got excited again and pointed at us in my lowly 987 as if we were a part of it. lol They parked at the parking lot of Pier 6 and we parked a distance away and walked around and took some pictures. Everyone was friendly and having a good time and we saw a few guys with the SW Exotics logo on their shirts taking pictures with some professional looking equipment. We didn't stick around long but it was really cool to randomly stumble across this get together. ETA some pics

I certainly get high end cars at the event (and have a few myself) but most are not. The Corpus area just doesn’t have many. We still have a fantastic time though. |

Motorcycles are easily the most common thing to see in the area. Mustangs, Corvettes and BMWs are fairly common as well. ETA Porsche thread should have these added from previous post. Oops   And my fun car

I could spam you all day with video driving the mountain roads, we have some really scenic, twisty roads in the PNW.

I’m swapping over to the Turbo S pads. I know there’s plenty of people that dig the GT3 pad compound on the street but I can’t stand it. I can’t get any real bite unless they’re hot and when they’re cold they squeal their ass off. In the rain they’re straight up dangerous. Attached File Attached File |

Short answer: I think so. Way more info that you asked for: This should be a straightforward swap as far as I know, but I searched the hell out of it and haven’t found something definitive like “I put 991.2 Turbo S PCCB pads on my 991.2 GT3 PCCB calipers and rotors, and here’s how it went” anywhere. So I’m being very paranoid about everything. On all the research I did, I found out that… - the pads dimensions are the same, but the construction and compounds are different (of course) - the Turbo S and GT3 both have ceramic pucks on their caliper pistons - the sizes of the rotors are identical - rotors are different part numbers. 991 GT3 front rotors cost approx $13K each according to Suncoast. The rears are around $14K each. The Turbo S rotors are like 6,500 and 7K each respectively. I was worried about why they are priced so much differently, but from what I can tell the friction rings are the same, the hats are the difference. Probably some GT tax involved as well. - Calipers are different because of the upright differences between AWD and RWD models, but both sweep the same over the same rotor friction ring. So, I went for it and installed them. Turbo S service manual says the proper way to bed in new PCCB pads is to drive normal for 200 miles without heavy or aggressive braking. So far I’m at 45 miles. I took a vacation weekend so I’ll pick this back up next week. So far the rotor face appears exactly like my Turbo S rotors. The very first drive, after parking in the garage, I heard a bunch of light “popping” noises from the front brakes for a couple of minutes after I parked and got out. Made me super nervous but the rotor face and caliper wasn’t super hot, I could hold the caliper and touch the rotor without getting burned. Rotor faces looked great. I jacked up all 4 corners and each wheel spun freely. After the second drive, I didn’t hear anything so I’m not sure what that was.. As before, everything looks fine. Bite was pretty bad at first but it’s increasing with the miles. I’m staying super paranoid for now. |

Yes that is awesome. Beautiful car. That would be a difficult decision on the 7.2 RS vs the 2.1 RS, tho. I’m not sure I’d be able to let go of the 2011. Not only do I think it would be a more raw and engaging drive but I bet the value ends up superseding the new RS in the long run. Still a great problem to have! |

New 911 Challenge was announced this week. More entry level than the new GT4R. I emailed Porsche Motorsport to put in for an allocation yesterday. Even if I get lucky, individual (not team) allocations will be late 2027 at best. I’m not holding my breath, I’ve never owned a P car. Edit: they replied and I’ve got a slot! The 910 with a twin plug 2.0 and slide valve mechanical fuel injection is still my favorite all time Porsche racing motor. The 2.8 RSR motor is sweet but this is on a different level.  I've driven a lot of old 911s but my favorite is still the 1969 911S 2.0 and 1970-71 911S 2.2 The one-year only mechanical fuel injected 2.0 found in the 69S is just so special, called a 901/10 It's wild comparing the 2.0 in the production 1969 911S with the 2.0 in the actual 910 race cars. Pre-1969, Porsche had 2.0 motors but they were carb'd In 1970, Porsche changed the motor when going to a 2.2. The one year only 1969 911S heads are rare because they're so similar to the race car heads. Just missing the extra spark plug hole. https://www.ebay.com/itm/113804903850 Both 69S and 906/910 engines have same bore/stroke. Both 69 911S and 910 have same 45mm intake and 39mm exhaust valve sizes. Both have Bosch mechanical fuel injection. 911S uses a butterfly for each cylinder, 910 uses slide valves. The 911S heads have a 36mm intake and 36mm exhaust ports. 910 have 38mm intake and 38mm exhaust (the previous 906/Carrera 6 race cars had 36mm/36mm like the 69S) I don't know the size of the 910 slide throttle diameter but the 69S has monster induction stacks. 46mm opening tapering down 38mm. The 1969 throttle bodies and stacks have different bolt patterns than all of the 1970+ MFI systems. The 1969 911S mechanical fuel injection Bosch pump is a 1 year design. The Bosch pumps from 1970+ are different. The 1969 pump has dual solenoids like the race cars. The pumps were changed in 1970 to make stricter emissions. If you're building a race car like a 2.8 RSR, you want a 1969 911E or 911S Bosch pump. I'm going to keep rambling. Just excited to post more about my 69S motor soon. Ordered a full amber fiberglass engine shroud from Germany earlier today and my Bosch MFI pump is close to being rebuilt by the famous Gus at Pacific Fuel Injection. These are made the same way as they did on the Porsche race cars. But you have to order it from Germany. They're made to order and takes awhile. https://www.f-s-h.com/Engine-shroud-set-MFI-for-911-E-S-1969 The 906/910 camshafts are definitely more extreme then the standard 911S camshafts. But the standard 911S camshafts are borderline not even streetable unless you drive the car hard. Power comes on hard at 5k-7.5k rpm so it needs to be revved. Cool thing is the 69S coupe is also the lightest factory production Porsche. Has a magnesium engine and transmission, last year before 1970 crash standards so missing door beams, etc.. I'm putting 910 fiberglass filter platforms on my car too. Probably not even going to run a filter, just rain hats. Found this last week too. Even Steve McQueen agrees with me. https://www.stuttcars.com/what-a-car-what-a-star-1969-mcqueen-porsche-911s/ McQueen had a 69S and a 70S when filming Le Mans. He sold the 70S and kept the 69S, it's still in his son's collection today.

Here is Gus at Pacific Fuel Injection. He's such a character. Currently he's rebuilding my 69S pump. There is only a handful of people in the US that still rebuild the Bosch pumps for mechanical fuel injection. In case you're curious, these are the models that came standard with MFI 1969 E and S 1970 E and S 1971 E and S 1972 T, E, and S 1973 E, S, and RS (T went to Bosch CIS) 1974-1976 911S 2.7 MFI in Europe 1974 Carrera 3.0 RS Various race cars had it too. 906E, 910, 917, and others. But it was a different system. Here is Gus' shop. He goes into details. It's pretty cool system. Very accurate, often gives +10hp over a similar carburerated setup, and actually has better fuel mileage due to the better fuel metering. The problem with MFI is that you have to know what you're doing when changing the settings. Often people would think it's just carbs and get the pump or linkage out of spec. These are the wheels that should be on my car. From what I understand, they can be very hard to find and they were not with the car when I bought it.

The Fuchs look good too but black wheels can be a real pain to keep clean. ETA obligatory pic

Well things change rapidly! I decided to have ChatGTP do some searching for a set of the original 18" Sport Classic Wheels the car was built with and there are currently two sets for sale in all of the internet and one set of them is less than 100 miles from my house.  I purchased them a few minutes ago and will drive down to get them tomorrow or the next day. They will either need some touch up or a complete refinish but I couldn't pass up the chance to put the car back original. |

I have debated putting the Cayman S wheels that came with the car from the factory back on. The previous owner kept them and included them with the sale when he swapped with what is on her now. I like the look but I vacillate between enjoying it as I bought it and putting it back to factory stock. lol This is what she looks like with the wheels she was originally shipped with (options S wheels) from the factory (Not my pic)  Vs. today
