Haven't had the D500 that long, not as long as my D780 or D3s.    And in all honesty, shooting h s basketball  under terrible lighting where u have to push the ISO, I really wasn't that happy with my results.   But under good light, really happy with it.

Shot my young cousin's game today.   She's all state and will be playing for a small college next year......super nice/smart kid.   Was really happy how quickly it focused and the quality of my images.    The camera just "feels right."

1/5000, f/2.8, 200 ISO with my Tamron 70-200 G2

Nice photo!

Which one is better than the D500 for low light, the D3s or the D780?

The D780 is waaaaaaay better than the D3s in low light and the D500 is "pretty" good.    But if I'm shooting low light,  I don't even think about using the D3s.   The D500........maybe.    The D780 really is quite good in low light.

The D780 is a FX/full-frame camera with a sensor measuring 24x36mm=864 sq-mm sensor, and the D500 is a DX/APS-C/crop 20MP frame camera, DX 23.5x15.6mm=366.6 sq-mm sensor. The FX sensor has more than 2.3X the area of the DX sensor, pretty large difference if you ask me.

Barring any gee-whiz electronics technology, the sensor with the bigger area will usually perform better in low-light because it has bigger ID optical diodes which gathers more light, in this the case the FX camera will outperform the DX camera in low light.

BTW the typical ad-hype that the more MPs the better indicating camera quality is not exactly true, you maybe able to quote more MPs, but sacrifice low-light performance, again barring an electronic gee-whiz technology. This electronic gee-whiz technology is why Sony's RX10- and RX100- series cameras performs so well.
