Pfft.  Me too, but I'm old, fat and weak.
But then, the only woman I'm lifting with is my wife, so that's a big confidence booster.

When she watches you get stuck on the squat and walks over to one-hand the bar back on the hooks, it's time for a new workout buddy.  Like an 8 year old girl.

Well, I was right.  In order to maintain velocity a swallow has to beat its wings 43 times every second.

Keto diet day 9, guacamole without chips just isn't the same.

Did squats today. Knew it was going to suck before I even started. Son kept me up all night. Then worked late. Only got 1 rep on 3 week.

Werd.

Dan John has lots of stuff on the mental game.

It goes for the weights and life.  See yourself as winning and assume that posture and attitude.  Everything else will fall into place.

I'm a big believer in the power of positive thinking. Within reason...I can't positively think a 1000 lb squat.

Speaking of squats. This heat blows great big donkey balls. I've been following a 3/2/1 template found on JTS and have loved it. However, I noticed that I stopped doing as much volume/accessories because my work sets were killing me. Dialed my numbers back and I'm not sure I like it. Reps over 3 = cardio. Did 355x6 tonight and could tell my work capacity was suffering.

It's amazing how many things I've read by pros, only to have to suffer the same pitfalls in order for it to stick.

Once, when squatting heavy one of my coaches (a lady, weirdly) was like "You let the bar beat you before you even touched it. Don't ever let that bar be heavy!" She was right.

Like that one dude says, pull the bar like your ripping the head off a God damned lion.  That's how I got my bar MUs, I started closing my eyes and just fucking pull like your fighting for your life.  Big difference.  With squats though, I suppose you might need to alter the metaphor.  Maybe raising a car off a kid or something.

When I go under the bar, I tell the weight that its big and ugly, and it will not beat me.

Everyone new looks at me like Im an idiot, but attitude quickly changes when its goes down and back up.

I like to visualize myself completing a lift successfully. When it starts getting heavy, I close my eyes, picture myself going through a perfect movement, then I lift. I swear it helps.

I do this before each lift...at least the big lifts.  I don't visualize my bicep curls.

I put my hands in position and then visualize everything from getting under the bar, walking it out, up/down, reracking.

today is recovery day so I did several miles of road biking in the foothills, I tried to go easy but it's tough up hills like that.  Trying to go practice cleans and OHS tonight after I get some work done.

Then the wife decided to make cinnamon rolls in the waffle iron for breakfast, and I didn't get this fat on accident.  Mmmmm.

I'm not addicted, I can stop any time.

GD is awesome.  I just found out that a Paleo diet won't work because paleontologists have not determined that its a historically correct diet.
Makes that cinnamon roll waffle taste all that much better.  You scrawny paleo guys can't prove that grok never ate a cinnamon waffle, can you?

I don't need to visualize myself lifting, I self identify as a muscular person.

lol, that's one of the worst things people do on paleo.

"Imma eat an entire batch of almond flour cookies made with honey because it's paleo and therefore healthy"

I found this article on testing your heart rate and how to use it in training.  I guess I've got a lot to learn.  I guess I always thought getting warm was for my muscles, and didn't really think it was tied to my heart, etc.  I guess that's why I get paid for legal advice, and not fitness advice.

Seriously though I'm pretty sure that shit is terrible for you, though I definitely drink the sugar free ones when I'm on the road a lot.

Even when I was drinking soda, I never touched energy drinks. I'm of the opinion that Rockstars will accelerate the rotting of your brain.

Just water, milk, and coffee for me. Most juice is bullshit and should just be called liquid sugar.

I'm a good rower, given my size.  But that kicked my ass and made me fight myself mentally.  I was able to finish just under 13 mins.  But I was slower than both of my training partners.  In the last round I lost the mental fight and rested several times where I shouldn't have.  I think I got my heart rate up a little too high too early and gassed out too soon.  Any of you have success in tracking your heartrate with one of those fitbit thingies?  Though even knowing my heartrate, I'm not sure how I can keep it down.  Any ideas or tips?

I'm really curious about the answer to this.  I have been really gassing myself in my circuits for the past few weeks and when I was laying on the floor trying to breathe I was wondering what my heart rate was and how I was going to do a better job of keeping it down.  I lost the mental fight today, I just plain gave up with just a few reps left.

Interesting.  If I could sum up what I got from that in 10 words or less, I'd say it's time to get a monitor, find that point where I know I'll get wiped out and keep myself just below that point.  Was that 10 words or less?
There were some really interesting nuggets in there too.  I'm considering getting a tracking monitor, just for kicks.  I have my doubts about the ability for it to judge a 'good day', but it's still interesting.

Years ago I was doing a lot of cycling and got my resting heart rate into the 40s, I noticed that simple things like standing would cause me to be light headed.  After looking into it I found that a healthy heart doesn't respond as quickly to a simple stimulus like standing up so you might be light headed.  But it's more prepared for a big stimulus- once it's warmed up.
