Last day of school for the year.
Had an entitled young lady who was upset she couldn't see her friend while said friend was in another teachers class. She couldn't understand why the teacher wouldn't drop everything and let them visit! I asked her why she came to school? "To see my friends!" Typical teenage problems. Oh to be young again! Time to decompress for a few weeks. I pray that the hospice has John comfortable and all he is experiencing is good. Your work is done brother. You have touched many lives in positive ways. Rest easy. Karla, stay strong and know that you and John are loved and appreciated. Have a blessed Christmas! |

John,
You made me go to the doctor and have things checked out that I had been worried about. I'm okay, but you made me go. You are a good, decent, and wonderful man. I think you are also a great husband and your love for Karla has been evident in all of your posts about her. I am the one who made the post in the Tia thread that made your wife cry. We talked about how animals come into our lives when they do for specific reasons. I think Tia was put in your path to help you and Karla smile ... and to be there for Karla when you can no longer be. I've never met you, but I already miss you and your presence and the 'good' in each day you have made me recognize and vocalize. Now my kids tell me the good in their days ... even bad days have good in them. Because of you. We say, "What's Mr. John's good thing for today?" And then we all tell each other what it was. Mr. John's good thing in every day is something I'll pass along to my grandchildren. I swear that to you. You will live on in every good thing that happens to me and mine and we'll never forget you for teaching us that lesson. Thank you. So much. So so so much for this thread, your honesty, and your beautiful soul. You are one of the good ones, sir. And it has been nothing but an honor to read your threads, see your dog videos, and learn from you when you weren't even being paid to teach us. God bless. A very rainy Friday morning here in northeast PA. Supposed to be that way all day - some might call it dreary. But, I know there is good now in every day. I've had my share of close calls during my years in the Army - the last one on 9/11/01 when I walked unscathed out of the wedge of the Pentagon that was hit by the plane. Nothing, though, made me realize the importance of appreciating the good around you like John has here. Thanks you, again, John. And Karla, for sharing him with us. Always in my thoughts and prayers. |

Wouldn't you know it, first day of my Christmas vacation and I still wake up before 4am. But as I've done since I found your thread, John, I check here while I have my morning coffee and it reminds me to follow your lead and find the good in the day. Considering that I have a massage scheduled at 0800, that is an easy place to start!
John and Karla, you both have been a source of great inspiration during your journey. I am very grateful to both of you for sharing with us. Praying for you both. |

Karla, I have been in your shoes and I understand how hard it can be. If you ever think it might help to reach out to an anonymous internet stranger to let some of those thoughts and feelings out, you just PM me or have someone do it for you and I’ll gladly give you my contact number. Please make sure to take good care of yourself. My good for the day was crawling into bed with my fiance when she got home from work at 8am, and just holding her while she slept. Sometimes it is the little things that make the heart smile. |

Thanks John and Karla for giving me one of the most moving Christmas seasons I have ever had in my fifty plus years.
I just spent the evening with my wife and two teenaged kids. A Peruvian diner followed up by a visit to the famous Ted Drews.

Sorry it’s been a week since I last spoke with Steve. I read your posts to John last week, I know he could hear me although he couldn’t speak. It was hard reading all of your thoughts and prayers. I had to stop several times due to tears. Thank you for the wonderful cards. They are so special. John is comfortable, he is in a hospital bed in our living room and our cat Lucky, is at the foot of the bed. We have a nurse come in daily along with home healthcare aids, many friends and family. John is never alone. Your posts made a difficult situation easier for me. I wish my AR 15 Family a blessed Christmas. With love, Karla |

Karla, thanks for the update. I'm sorry I can't do more for you. We've been in the process of moving so we haven't sent cards or put up a tree or anything. John is a beautiful person of great character and wisdom. I'm glad he kept posting here as long as he could. Know that we are walking this journey with you. One step at a time. |
