Today, with permission, they started to drill for samples. This site was revelead/made visable by an earth quake the same week Israel officially became a modern nation (May of 1948) My guess....they will find nothing but will frame it in some way to still get money. Its the nature of things. I do love biblical archaeology though. How about this one if you missed it....which is something far more compelling. I find biblical archeology fascinating. It's pretty tough to separate the theology from the science unfortunately though. That said the article you linked is a rock. I was kinda hoping this was gonna be at gobekli tepe. |

Random Biblical Archaeology Memory: I was passing through Israel a while ago (selling silencers to folks in the area, as I sometimes do) and thought it was pretty cool to get to see the Caesarea Maritima ruins. This is basically Pontius Pilate's beach palace (Pilate = the Roman ruler that found Jesus Christ innocent, but still sentenced him to a crucifixion death for political reasons). Originally built by Herod the Great (the dude that had all the babies in the area slaughtered when he heard there was a "King of the Jews" being born under his reign, thought it might be a competitor to his throne he could nip in the bud, so to speak.) There's a lot of fake / traditional "maybe that's the place" shrines and such in the Middle East, but this one's pretty straight up history and not in any doubt of authenticity. Sometimes people don't have a connection between an old religious book and the concrete reality of a place they can stand in front of and go "Yep, that's the place/guy in the Bible." There's literally a yard sign they found in a 1961 excavation that had a Latin inscription explicitly identifying this was the house of "Pontius Pilate, Prefect of Judea". Interestingly, the only contemporary archaeological artifact verifying his historical existence. Side note: If I was a rich ruler, I would have picked this location as my HQ / beach house as well: beautiful seaside compound. The palace was built directly onto a rocky peninsula jutting out into the Mediterranean with an Olympic-sized pool carved straight out of the natural bedrock. Despite being surrounded by ocean saltwater, it was filled with fresh water drawn from an underground water table. Baller as heck. Horse stables carved into the rocky hill, an ampitheater, etc. ETA: Totally forgot, but Googled to catch my brain up. This Caesarea by the Sea place is also the location the famous follower-of-Jesus Paul was jailed while he waited to appeal his case before King Agrippa II in the bible's Acts 26 chapter. (Here he gave his dramatic conversion story about walking on the road to Damascus, which some in this thread will be familiar with. King Agrippa heard his impressive story and famously replied, "Do you think that in such a short time you can persuade me to be a Christian?") I mean, prison is prison, so sucked I'm sure, but if I had to be jailed somewhere this seems a nice place! |

If they find a ship, the immediate response will be “ah, see, this was a tourist attraction built by cynical by Bronze Age atheists to make money off credulous Bronze Age religious people”. There’s always going to be freedom to disbelieve. We can get spectral evidence of an energy burst from Christ’s tomb and it would be handwaved away as coincidence. | There is a 3 season show on Prime, The Naked Archaeologist. He is a Canadian Jew that is studying the Bible compared to the well known Biblical sites. There is no nudity and he is trying to get to basic facts, get to the naked truth. Some humor, some conclusions were really good and with my small knowledge of the Bible I was unsure of his conclusion. I have never been to Israel but I been to some biblical sites in Turkey that he visited and I have been in the Vatican basement so I was able to visit some of those sites. He tries to locate where Moses led the Jews out of Egypt and which mountain climbed to get the 10 Commandments. Agree or not agree, the show will stir your brain. |

| I have watched a ton of videos about Noah's Ark. It is interesting that in 1943, a Navy pilot spotted a rectangular shaped object in the ice on Mt. Ararat itself and several locals claim to have been inside the object. However due to strict laws by Turkey regarding going on Mt. Ararat as well as the object now reportedly being covered by an ice glacier, it is no longer visible. This is completely different from the mound of dirt (hundreds of feet long) where they are now drilling. |

It gonna be fun if they discover anything in the "ark" that is closer to the Epic of Atrahasis rather than the story of Noah. So many monotheists gonna renegotiate the bible again to keep believing that their version of the story is the real one and not a monotheistic adaptation of a polytheistic story. |
