The UK is not ready for the next global pandemic because public services are being dismantled and key research is being defunded, experts have claimed. More than three years after the global outbreak of coronavirus, top scientists have warned that the UK is no better prepared for a pandemic than it was in 2020. They say another epidemic on the scale of Covid-19 is inevitable, but that disinvestment in infection-monitoring services, dismantling of key infrastructure, and the state of the NHS mean the country is "losing ground". The warning comes as virologists told The Independent that the new Covid-19 variant behind a surge of 10,000 new Covid cases a day in India may turn more aggressive, and could become the dominant strain in the UK. moar |

We went a century between the 1918 Spanish flu and 2020s covid. Conveniently around 2018 they were starting to talk about the next big pandemic and what do you know, poof, the next year what did we have but the biggest excuse they needed to try out all sorts of new oppressive restrictions on the general population My point is that while covid is never going away and there might be new stuff popping up in the coming decades, they need to chill out back down and stop salivating at the idea of new diseases they can use as an excuse to oppress society |

I've said this to friends the last two years. No matter what you believe took place, what root cause was, what the end goal was, etc... it is pretty clear that should another pandemic occur in the next couple of generations, a huge part of the population is NOT going to trust what the govt will tell them. The unfortunate part is that if the next one has a no-shit mortality rate, something high enough that we should isolate or take other freedom impacting steps, many will simply say no. They eroded whatever trust existed for many people. There will always be people who will do what the government says. But... I'd wager there are fewer now than there were. |
