Attached File Solid walnut top with a roman ogee edge, solid oak sides, walnut trim at the bottom. I need a better radial arm saw. Those miter joints had to be cleaned up alot. Had to come up with a 3d printed fixture to clean them up on the sander. Attached File Attached File |

If nothing else, to make cutting down sheet goods easier. There is some joinery stuff that a radial arm saw is great for. I really want to try some of those radial arm saw "castle joints" I see on youtube. |

I find that getting a decent 45 on woodworking tools is very difficult. I suspect alot of it is me as I'm used to working with metal working stuff and expect near perfect cuts. I can cut miters so that when assembled and I check the miter accuracy with a 18" precession square there is always a couple of thousands of gap on either side of the miter. Hard to get that out. Always some variances and no constancy on the cuts. I think saw blade wobbles, cutting into or out of the miter makes a difference and wood species makes a big difference. Soft woods like walnut work better than hard stuff like Oak. I usually cut them on my table saw, I have a fixture that is a large framing square that I milled to as close to a perfect 90 as I could with my equipment. That or tilting the saw blade at 45 depending if I'm doing miters like OP shows or one like you'd do on a picture frame. Often times I tweek my miters on a mini mill that I have. That gives the best miters. But its limited size wise. |
