I keep seeing people bitching about Trump pardoning fraudsters. I don't see much else about it nor do I know the back story on these people. Anybody following this stuff? Was it targeted enforcement due to political affiliation? What should we know about this?

I am not a lawyer, but my understanding is that the president can only pardon Federal charges and would have no bearing on any civil judgements, state level charges, or private debts. So I'm not sure what mechanism Trump has used to supposedly pardon all these debts, or if the OP is even true. He could probably direct some Federal agencies to drop fines/charges that stemmed from his pardons, but that's a separate action and independent of the pardon. It also wouldn't apply to any state level fines or civil judgements. |
