I have had a Nova Chuck for a very long time. Several sets of jaws and the cole jaws. Works good as far as I am concerned. I think mine is the superNova The ones newer than mine use a hex tool to adjust the jaws. Mine being old uses a Chuck key like for your drill/drill press. Would be nice but they are not inexpensive and no compelling reason to total replace the Chuck The nova chucks have small pin jaws too white can hold small stock for pens, maybe fishing rod reel seats, chess pieces, … I have turned some large (12” was as big as I could put on my old lathe. You need a good faceplate too. Like Easywood. Big unbalanced stuff you’ll want to start with a faceplate and and live center. Then as you get the bulk of the outer waste off get it on a Chuck The Chuck should last you a lifetime. |

A record power SC1 or SC2 would make a great first chuck. I have 5 nova chucks in all different size jaws and another record power in a bigger size. I use my SC2 chuck all the time. It will be great for small spindle work up to 10 inch bowls with the correct jaws. |
