This is a 4-part Netflix documentary about the Unabomber - Ted Kaczynski - who terrorized America from 1978-1995 by sending/planting random bombs around the country. This is NOT a drama. It's a doc based on recorded prison interviews of Ted Kaczynski, FBI, his neighbors, his brother, psychiatrists, and others. He wrote thousands of pages in a diary that are also featured. He eventually killed three people and injured many others. Some highlights: Kaczynski was very intelligent. Went to undergrad at age 16 at Harvard, then grad school in Michigan. Majored in Math. He was always described as odd and weird. Had no friends. Was awkward with women. He hated and feared technology. He was an anarchist and a loner. He was unkempt and dirty. He looked like Charlie Manson with the crazy hair and beard. Shocker: He fantasized about killing women, and about becoming a trans woman. (Where have we seen this before?) Lived in rural Montana in a 1-room cabin. Spied on his neighbors, stole from them, and vandalized their stuff. Self-taught how to build bombs. The first ones were crude but he learned quickly how to make them more effective. He was eventually outed by his own younger brother. I like this series a lot. Highly recommended. |

The hospital kept his parents on a limited visiting schedule and when he returned home he was never the same. They theorize he had acquired an abandonment syndrome. Went from a jolly little boy to very introverted and odd. He was just an evil mofo. Had no empathy toward others at all. Blamed others for everything bad in his life. Took no responsibility for anything. Constantly complained about "affordability." OK, I made that last one up.

This part stuck with me Suppose you asked leftists to make a list of ALL the things that were wrong with society, and then suppose you instituted EVERY social change that they demanded. It is safe to say that within a couple of years the majority of leftists would find something new to complain about, some new social “evil” to correct because, once again, the leftist is motivated less by distress at society’s ills than by the need to satisfy his drive for power by imposing his solutions on society. |

They have to find something else to be against. Case in point was how "gay rights" groups reacted when gay marriage was effectively legalized. Did they beat their swords into plowshares? There is also the fact that despite the decades-long search, authorities were ultimately unsuccessful in finding him until the manifesto was published (against the wishes of many in law enforcement) and his brother recognized the specific phrase and writing style. |
