On the lighter side, this has to be the best "rare disorder" there is.  It's an actual genetic disease - with no other detriment (usually) and kids generally grow out of it.

from NIH:
Uncombable hair syndrome (UHS) is a rare disorder of the hair shaft of the scalp. It is usually characterized by silvery-blond or straw-colored hair that is disorderly; stands out from the scalp; and cannot be combed flat. Most cases are isolated, but in some cases it has been described in association with other diseases, such as ectodermal dysplasias, Bork syndrome and Angel-shaped phalangoepiphyseal dysplasia. The syndrome has been found to be caused by genetic changes in the genes PADI3, TGM3, and TCHH. These three genes code for proteins that are involved in hair shaft formation. The syndrome appears to be inherited in an autosomal recessive fashion; however, cases inherited in an autosomal dominant manner may also exist, as there are other genes involved in hair formation. The condition often spontaneously regresses in late childhood

Huh. That explains the hair on my buddy from my hometown.

His hair stood up straight out from his scalp.

Then one day when we were about 25, he sent out a text that his hair stopped doing the thing.
Very strange.

Once met a little girl who had Werewolf Syndrome.

She had brown hair covering her entire body, a couple inches long.

She was about 6 when I met her at the hospital I worked at.

Her and her mom jumped in my shuttle van.  I did a double take and she laughed and said everyone does that.

She grabbed my hand and asked if I wanted to pet her head.

Her mom just rolled her eyes and said SHE does that to everybody and it was ok.

It was just soft brown hair like fur.

She was a regular at the hospital for almost 7 years, and slowly she lost all the hair.

She was a great kid and I hope she is doing well in life.  Upbeat through the whole process.

They say they've only diagnosed a few hundred kids with it so far.  But it's also a genetic condition that until of late, didn't really get tested for that much; as folks just figured it was crazy-kid-hair.

The little girl just needs to get use to using a flat iron on her hair.
