My understanding is the US supplied the Iraqi Army and National Police somewhere in the neighborhood of 700k G19's. (Many of which promptly ended up sold to the black market. Soldiers had insufficient salaries and couldn't support their families, so Iraqi government provided firearms came up for sale.) During Isis, anyone found with a G19, or any M16 family of rifles, was immediately under threat of incarnation, torture, and death, since these were known to have been Iraqi government sourced from the US, and thus so possession to be surmised to be of an Isis enemy.

ETA. Of G19's...  With the replacement of a readily obtainable part, G19's then became select fire. Cost of part was then about $2-300. (G18's were rare.)

Found a bit more info. Still no idea on how many were provided.
US-purchased SP 2022's were issued by MNSTC-I (Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq) to the Iraqi Army in 2005
It wouldn't surprise me in the least the Iraqi Army was also being supplied 2022's. (I never asked, nor was told where these came from, only that their being available at less than G19 prices on the black market.)

Also, Eastern European AK's (allegedly) were initially being funded/provided to the Iraqi Army and National Police, (US or multi nationally sourced) since the AK platform did not entail an unfamiliar manual of arms to army or police. ($400USD for a select fire AK on the black market.)  Imagine!

IIRC, Bushmaster was sourced by some security contracting providers. (When contractors departed, many sold weapons prior to leaving.)

There was at least one Colt Commando sourced (by ????) to the President of Kurdistan's security detail, which later found its way onto the open market.

Basically, in Mosul, if one has the funds just about any weapons platform is for sale. And,... I would too surmise throughout Iraq, if not the entire region.

By looking at the shoddy craftsmanship I'd say it was built in a cave and with dull hand tools.

Iraq received a butt-load of brand new Bulgarian AR-M1 milled AK rifles post-invasion(Basically the Arsenal SAM7R we get here but with the third pin.) They also got new Romanian PM md 64 RPKs (AES10b) around the same time.

Roughly translated into Iraqi currency, the equivalent of +/- $1.3M Iraqi dinars to the USD.. To those well financed, certainly a fine specimen.

The average Iraqi laborer would consider $10USD a good days wage.
