Hey guys, I signed up for the " gritty soldier" roman legionnaire ruck ( 18 miles in 6 hours).   I haven't done a timed long distance hike since the marine days.   I currently own a smaller assault pack for regular hikes with my kids.
For the ruck challenge, I'm looking at getting the USMC issued Filbe pack. Seems the best option for comfort, storage ( use other than rucks) , and has the external frame.
    Thoughts?
If I was only doing a couple of miles I'd use my assault pack.  But need something more robust for the longer stuff.

what are the requirements?  I have both the ILBE and the FILBE.  the former is MUCH more comfortable without armor/PC on whereas the latter is more comfy with armor/PC on.  Ive got many hours under both fully loaded :)

Both are huge if you only need a 3 day pack.  Not sure what you have to carry.  There are way more comfy 3-day size packs.

I have an ILBE and it's a nice pack, just a heavy base weight.

My favorite grab and go pack though is a mish mash. It's a medium ALICE on a MOLLE frame. Super comfortable, and a good size.
If you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it.

I should have added, the ruck has to weigh 45lbs.    The issue with assault bags is the lack of external frame.   At least that was my thinking.   I also can't break the bank on a premium brand.
I would like to use w/e bag I get for other rucks if various weights and other hiking/ camping trips.

I saw the Crossfire packs and would love one of those as it's medium sized, padded, durable and external frame, but the price is outrageous.

I used the ilbe when I was in.   I hate that thing lmao ( probably cause it was the tool of pain ).

Which MOLLE frame are you using?
