I’d say, having just elected an individual that is known to have said he’d kill children to force the opposition to submit to his viewpoint, yes a lot of them do want us dead.

They just want the .gov to do it for them.

Something that needs to be fully digested and come to terms with. Unfortunately we can’t afford the mental gymnastics that’s been played to explain and rationalize things away.

The reality is, a person was just elected that it has been proven made statements they will kill people to get them to bend the knee. Not just individuals, but their children.

That in itself, makes things different from last time and needs to be driven home at every opportunity.

I did forget that part and I agree, they will.
Many would have to accept vilification as their mantle just as those who have gone before us did in their time.

I absolutely agree with what you’ve said in your reply to my comment as well as the one that followed regarding the patriot that had everything taken from him.

You also point out in your reply to me yet another irony.

That of the fact that an elected official is free to spout all manner of immoral things and not a finger is lifted, however should I speak out on an open forum I’d have VSP up my ass so far I wouldn’t be able to move.

The irony of these things, and how far we’ve fallen from what our Founding Fathers believed is sickening. One could read countless historical remarks regarding a tyrannical gov during that time period and warnings regarding such, and without effort draw a direct parallel.

Yet here we are….

Yep, agreed and was very much of the same thought process years ago.

Then again, I think the biggest fallacy is that the left owns a monopoly on violence.   In my opinion, they measure the rights response as if it were their own.  That’s the issue - the left seemingly has the ability to dial violence up and down at will, depending on the political need.  The right, and speaking from my own introspection, is pretty much an on/ off switch.

My lack of violent response to their bullshit should not be construed as a lack of will power, in fact, it’s the complete opposite.

What the recently "elected" dont realize is how defiant 87% of the state is going to be.

You can try to compare us to states like CA or NY but it is not the same.

As has been mentioned the state doesn't have the resources to go door to door, but God help them if they do.

I'm still shocked that the guy who literally said he wanted peoples' kids killed got elected. The Dem party didn't call him down for that, nobody signaled that such violent expressions are not acceptable in political discourse.

Proving again that the American Left is where the violence comes from. Not that we need more evidence of that, but the general public probably does.

Has that guy been red-flagged yet? If I still lived in Virginia, I'd definitely feel personally unsafe because of him. I'd want to know where he lives and keep tabs on him at all times, just to protect my own safety, since he's publicly threatened me AND refused to recant his threats.

ETA - okay, he did apologize.
Jones admitted to sending the messages after National Review published screenshots in early October. “I am embarrassed, ashamed, and sorry,” he said in a statement. “I cannot take back what I said; I can only take full accountability and offer my sincere apology.” He later said he had reached out to Gilbert’s family to apologize directly.

Agreed.  Not that I think Lobby Day 2.0 is the right move, but that fact about voters staying home is true and does influence whether those of us who drove or flew thousands of miles and risked our lives to stand with you in 2020 are willing to do it again.

The larger problem as I see it is that Virginia has always been a dividing line between the political views of northerners and southerners. The Carolinas have always been lukewarm on the 2nd amendment. There’s something about the Carolinas that never felt like there was a “culture” or commonality amongst the residents. Politically, they tend to follow Virginia on many things, and don’t even get me started on Georgia and the influence and corruption of Atlanta. As Virginia goes - so goes the rest of the south. I think Florida is different, but we’ll see.

It sure would have been nice if Virginians could have taken 15 minutes of their day to push a button and save themselves.

From SUVGOP

Just a reminder, hundreds of readers participated in our survey and we thank those of you who responded. Please remember this was a simple questionnaire, i.e. no division by demographics, geography, margin of error, etc. Just your responses. So let's look at how our readers feel about "the State of the GOP in the State":

Question 5: What specific suggestions for the GOP in Virginia to rebuild ahead of 2026? The responses fell into the following categories:

   Better Communication on Issues/Ads - 30%
   Better Candidate Recruitment - 20%
Better Get Out The Vote (GOTV) and Absentee Voting Efforts - 13%
Reduce the Influence of President Trump - 12%
Better Republican Party Leadership - 12%
More Support and Funding from National GOP - 5%
   No More Consultants - 3%
   Other - 5%

Similar to the responses of Question #1 in last week's results, our readers feel that the communication on issues needs to be better (and more on target).

The focus on "social" issues and not the economy or affordability should change. Many noted that the Democrats attracted the independent swing voters in 2025 elections. Twenty percent stated the GOP needs to improve candidate recruitment. Responses covered both the quality and the lack of challengers in numerous seats. The remaining 50% of the respondents blamed President Trump, the Virginia Republican Party (state and local) or the GOP's National Committees (RNC, RSLC) and affiliated conservative groups that did not match the far-Left's large funding levels to their candidates.

Below are some insightful comments related to Question 5:

"Emphasis on "convenience" of absentee ballot and voting and getting reluctant voters to sign up for absentee ballot."
"Develop a positive message for voting for Republican candidates."
"We need messaging to help legal immigrants who are voting that they do not have to vote Democrat."
"The negative messaging I saw really turned both me and many of my fellow voters off."
"Give manageable goals to County Committee members. Make them accountable."
"Ask Amy Riccardi how she won the Sterling District for LOUDOUN County School Board. She had an effective message to a distinctly immigrant population."
"Actively seek out candidates. There were many districts that went uncontested."

[#11]
Question 6: Voter-turnout analysis shows a steep drop in Republican votes in the suburbs. What should change to energize those areas?

   Run Better Candidates - 19%
Return to "Suburban" Issues (lower taxes/economic growth) - 18%
More Engagement with Low Propensity Voters - 18%
Better Outreach to New Voters (Young, Immigrants and New Citizens) - 13%
Better Messaging All Year / More Positive News - 9%
Get Closer to MAGA and President Trump - 9%
Stronger Party Leadership and Support from National - 6%
   No Clue - 3%
More Money to Our Candidates - 2%
   Other - 5%

A theme we saw throughout the survey was the frustration with the candidates put forward and recruitment efforts by the GOP. For Democrats, their candidates must run for lower office and climb the political ladder, gaining experience and a network of contacts/donors.

Our candidates usually have less public office experience (and do not have the funds to overcome low name ID like Governor Youngkin did) and should build networks (HOA, volunteer boards, etc.) before seeking office. We like the comment below about the need to "grow winners". This takes time but it should start today. ("A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step").

The answers to these questions look just like the mamby pamby crap that Democrats said when they lost to Trump this last time. "Oh, we just need to adjust our message. The population misunderstands us."

How about this, GOP? Develop a fucking killer instinct to go for the political throat. Stop playing like pussies. But to do that, you will have to get away from the tried and (un)true methods of opinion polls and image consultants. Get Ozzy Osbourne (RIP) to get on stage and bite the head off of a bat and say, "This is what I am going to do to goddamn Democrats!" Figuratively, of course. It's a mindset.

Well, OK, maybe that is a little too Jay Jones. But you get the point.

That is crazy. There is so much to unpack with that simple fact.

First, Trump really is a cult of personality.

Second, those Trump voters lack a grasp on the issues.

Third, those Trump voters don't seem to care about the issues: they don't actually care about the economy, or immigration policy, or foreign policy, etc. They're captured by Trump's populism/charisma/animated messaging. IOW, they're all about the feelz.

The important question is, how can those Trump voters be animated to vote for Republican candidates at large? Three elections seem to indicate a pretty high barrier to that. And that is a VERY daunting prospect for the Republican party. It's worth noting on this point that a Trump endorsement means nothing. It might get candidates a win in a primary, but those Trump voters aren't going to show up for the general election. Trump-endorsed candidates largely are big losers in general elections no matter the district. IIRC, we had a Nevada seat a few years ago (I forget if it was Senate or House) that was there for the taking, and the candidate Trump got through the primary was absolute dog shit. Naturally, we lost. How can the Republican party adapt to the good of what Trump brings to the table while discarding the negatives (and realizing that some things 'conventional wisdom' says are negative are actually not)?'

Additional thoughts on the lost Trump voters...

There's some reason why those voters would not support Republicans more broadly: the Republican Establishment shit on Trump nearly as badly as the Democrats, and that's not good. They didn't attack the substance of Trump's arguments (immigration, trade, economy, America first), they attacked Trump. And not just a few Republicans, it was generally the entire DC Establishment. So Trump voters NOT being loyal at all to the party makes complete sense. The Republicans really screwed up, and I think this is reflected in the comments cited above about Republicans providing better messaging and better candidates.

IMO, respondents are looking for candidates who are aligned with Trump - not in the cult of personality, but on the substance of the issues (trade, immigration, America first). If Republicans would adopt Trump's positions, and bring their own authentic speaking to those issues, it might attract some of those voters.

The bottom line is that the Republican party is a lost cause unless they change their priorities and their messaging. VAGOP is a perfect reflection of this. Jones should NOT have won, not no way, not no how, not with that despicable personal history. But the old-school Republican Establishment doesn't have what it takes to win, either in their positions or how they communicate them.

It all goes to what I've been saying for years: the Republicans are failing to develop and communicate a compelling message to the voters.

People get mad at me when I say that our side deserves what's coming. However, when I see something like that, it's incredibly difficult for me to think any other way.
I mean, I'm not asking people to take up arms and overthrow the government... just fucking vote. I lived in NY for years, voting was an exercise in futility most of the time.
However, I still voted, every chance I got. It's literally the very least you can do without doing nothing at all.

Like George Carlin said, most people are idiots, and that includes the people on our side. I guess you can't expect idiots to not be idiots.
(Though I do find it funny when someone even suggests that "someday," the Right is going to "rise up." The Right won't even fucking vote. )

There is "better messaging" and "having a message." They literally had no message, which allowed others to fill the void for them, and misrepresent what they were saying. It didn't matter if they were Trump-R's or just R's, they failed to have a message, and no amounts of empty messages will motivate an ignorant and apathetic voter base.

But this isn't the thread for soul-searching; if we want to change R's in VA, it's up to us to get involved and start pushing the 70 year old establishment people into retirement.

As far as the rest of what's brewing in Richmond, I'll be there as usual explaining how politics works, and I sure as hell hope to have more people there than we did last year. I am not sure I care for a repeat of 2020; as others said this will be subverted very quickly.

Post passage of more bad laws, we must hang together or we'll surely hang separately.

(sigh) Quite so. Republicans haven't had a coherent public plan of action/statement of intent since 1994. That was powerful enough to get them control of the House for the first time in more than a generation. There's been nothing since then. There was the TEA party, but the Republican Establishment co-opted and killed it; that was a similarly powerful public message that still has relevance. I wrote 'Taxed Enough Already' on a survey for my local school district planning a new tax referendum that will likely be on the ballot next year. Then there is Trump populism, but Trump himself cannot sustain consistent messaging.

I believe there is room for a conservative platform and approach to government, with messaging that will be publicly popular, but the Republican party is too entrenched and riven internally to produce it. That leaves only the Strong Leader/Cult of personality/populist/reactionary approach, which doesn't result in sustainable and transferable electoral success. And allows Dems to fill the gaps.

Also there is a special election coming up 09 Dec for a Fairfax county board of supervisors seat in Braddock district.   Balbuena.  The radicals control the whole board.

Ditto. VCDL is the best gun rights org I've ever seen, though they only operate in and for Virginia. They are GREAT, and deserve all support.

Reading that newsletter is so sobering. Hard to believe that Wisconsin is more of a 'free state' than Virginia.

(And Wisconsinites need to take a hard look at Virginia and get ready for our elections next year. Dems gonna push HARD.)

Va has a number of issues in regards to the reversing the current trend of politicians

They chose not to contest a large number of seats across the state and handed them to the other side.  I get funding is limited, but the richest man on the planet is sympathetic to your position, figure it out, local races are not expensive.

Don't run bad candidates, running a crazy Jamaican chick against a former swamp creature is not going to work for a state level seat.

While I am a single-issue voter, most people in NOVA are not, and honestly, I dont think shooting and guns is as popular as we believe it is, especially in NOVA.  the ranges are few and far between, for the actual amount of people exercising their rights on a regular basis.

The 2A isn't as big in Va as it was 20 years ago. "W" destroyed Va, with a great helping from the national and state level GOP. You simply can't explode the fed gov and expect not to be a democrat state. You also can't expect to remain a GOP state when your local GOP boards are approving every Townhouse and Apartment site plan they can to line their pockets.
National Democrats certainly helped to fuck Va with importing tons of shit people from shit country's.
Social issues don't win elections in Va, outside of a one off with Fast Terry 2.0.
A lot, I'd say a majority of gun owners in Va are FUDDs and I gots mines.

NOVA isn't even populated by Virginian's anymore.

Sears is a good person who ran a shit campaign just like most of the Va GOP does.

Simply put, Va is like every other blue state.

Sears wasn't a country club Republican. And since she isn't, they did the bare minimum to support her, and in some instances, worked against her. Her reputation for not suffering fools is probably overblown, but fools in the political business are over represented too.

There is a total count, and 900k people fewer voted? It's also easy to add up all the R votes, D votes, compared to registered voters, and work out what percentage of the electorate showed up.

Okay, so that's there the "900k voters" came from: 4.3 million voted in the federal, and 3.4 in the state, +/- 100k since i don't feel like carrying zeroes that far.

Who are they?  Shouldn't the GOP figure that out and start a campaign today, to get those committed to voting?  My House District guy was marketing to them, can't remember the term, but the occasional voters, those who vote periodically or only in federal elections.

Philip Van Cleave is a friend of 20+ years.  I was an executive member in VCDL for decades and support their cause.  Philip's stance is that we should show up in nice suits and beg our representatives to represent us.  I've sat in those meetings for many years and stood and testified before the Virginia general assembly on many occasions.  VCDL does GREAT work, and I in no way want to undermine them.  The problem is that they are a lobbying organization with no fangs.

My current stance is different.  We need to show up in full battle rattle in the right circumstances and make it very clear we won't be subjugated.  I stood alone against a group of ~40 Virginia State Police and told them people like me were going to shoot people like them when they were sent to enforce unconstitutional laws - and my presence at LD 1.0 was not against them, but actually to protect them.  The "don't step on snake" meme is legit, because ultimately - they're afraid of a snake.  The snake doesn't beg.  The snake doesn't wear a suit.  The snake bites.  Don't step on the snake.  We are the snake.  I don't think the current regime cares, though, and they actually dare the snake to bite because violence furthers their agenda.

The best approach for Virginia in 2020 and 2026 remains the same - polite lobbying is best done in conjunction with a hammer/snake outside their windows.  The armed and angry Lobby Day crowd stomping their feet and chanting shook the windows of the representatives while our polite suit wearing disarmed people politely spoke to them inside.  We work best together.  That said, numbers always matter.  Is VCDL right to call for big numbers?  Absolutely.  Is VCDL calling for LD 2.0?  No.  VCDL was never associated with the "hammer" portion of the group outside the fence.  VCDL was the polite and disarmed group inside of the fence.  They didn't disown us, but they wisely separated themselves from the rabble outside.  It would have undermined their message otherwise.

The lobbying side of their coin benefits from big numbers.  Show up and be counted Virginians!  The hammer/snake side either needs to happen or not happen (no in between). Virginia now has laws against protesting or assembling while armed.  While a group of 20,000 could push the limits, a group of 200 could not.  We are the many, but I don't know that an armed contingent (in violation of Virginia law) is the right move because quite honestly - it's not going to get any effective reaction from our reps.  I can't put my finger on exactly why, but like Jan 6 - I don't think the stars align here.  If you're able to go with a suit on and lobby - GO.  Tell your friends and bring them.  I don't think this is the year to roll in heavy and I don't see that as a conflict with VCDL's stance at all.  We need to be strategic about the exact circumstances we rattle and show our fangs.

Leading up to LD2020 VCDL leadership was very opposed to our efforts to organize a large scale armed with rifles Lobby Day.

They were completely in denial that the game had changed. Phillip van Cleave was stuck in the past and couldn't recognize that what we were doing was going to be the most effective approach, so he opposed it. He thought it was too dangerous.

I suppose a lot of people might not know that those of us who did a significant amount of planning, organizing, and preparation for Lobby Day 2020 were opposed by PVC. In fact, we met with him and offered to hand him the reigns of our operation and he declined, and also declined to assist us in any way, because he said we were going about it wrong. Then he got fundraisers and massive amounts of media attention off the back of our labor. He has done a lot, don't get me wrong- but all the news coverage and focus was on the people we brought and organized.

Now, PVC and the VCDL leadership are again in denial and stuck in the past. Always ready for the last fight and unable to recognize the rapid changes that have formed the situation they now face. We warned them that the approach we were taking would only work once. Now PVC is going to make himself the fool if he pushes for the same strategy.

Heaven help you all.

I was waiting for someone else to go there.

They are certainly unclear in their newsletter as to what they mean by "a record turnout" for LD '26. Although I think all of us realize it's inferred no kit.

What would that look like? Would it have any teeth? 50k+ Patriots unarmed (not necessarily in suits).

Obviously if we went righteous LD 2.0 there would be many concerns, but weren't there the first time?

I do feel like we need to do something but what, is the question.

And time is of the essence. Im not sure anything could be organized one way or the other at this point.

I don't think I have to say this, but if you can't out-do Lobby Day 2020, don't do Lobby Day 2026.

And yes, I understand the laws have been changed to essentially outlaw another Lobby Day 2020.

Sure there were concerns with LD 1.0, but there was a massive uprising of likeminded people and a palatable outcome.  We accomplished our goal and faded.  All the stars aligned.  The Dems announced their bills and intentions far enough ahead to build resistance.  Armed protesting was legal (and thus low risk relatively speaking).  The governor and reps were mildly committed - almost like someone dipping their toe in cold water.  It's easy to say in hindsight, but everything worked for us in 2020.  I don't think any of us knew that we were going to survive the day, but the positive outcome and path to it were there.

Now?  The Dems (per the video posted above) are holding back all bills to delay any uprising until it's too late.  It's genius.  We rise when threatened, so they're going to postpone the threat until after Lobby Day.  Armed protesting has been outlawed - not that we're above doing it, but it comes at an extremely high price.  The new regime doesn't care at all what you have to say and most Virginians aren't on your side.  In fact, those that are "on your side" didn't even show up to vote.  Current day is slanted to high risk low reward.  There's literally nothing that goes in our favor this time.

What do we do?  We should probably fall back to more typical lobbying on Lobby Day 2026.  I'm not afraid of standing and being counted.  I'm not afraid of showing up armed and getting shot or arrested.  As with all things we do - it should be for the maximum value and the least cost.  The reality is that 2026 isn't the right venue as far as ROI.  I don't know when the next line to stand on occurs.

I still believe Lobby Day 2020 is the largest group of armed civilians that has ever gathered in defiance of a government and lived to tell about it.  I also believe that as we squared off with Virginia State Police (and others) and things were getting tense that POTUS's tweet in support of us saved the day.  I'm proud to have stood with all of you that were there that day.  We must be strategic about when and where we stand next.  I don't think Lobby Day 2026 is the place to make an armed stand.  That said, I truly wish I were wrong because I'd love to make a difference again.  Thousands of us earned our patch that day, and I know I still hold mine with great respect for those that stood together on that extremely cold January morning.
