Rangers at Yosemite National Park hope the public can help them find people who used spray paint to tag rocks along a popular hiking trail to the top of Yosemite Falls last month.

Vandals sprayed graffiti in both blue and white paint at several locations along the Yosemite Falls Trail. Park visitors reported the tagging after 8 p.m. on May 20 and reported it to rangers, who set up a trail block to try to identify potential suspects.

The following day, rangers discovered that the taggers had struck about 30 different points along the trail. Most of the tags were about 3 feet square, but some covered areas as large as 8 feet by 8 feet, rangers reported.

Yosemite National Park is one of the most visited sites in the National Park Service system, attracting more than 3.3 million visitors in 2021.

After the park posted about the incident on Sunday on its social media channels, public reaction to the attack was sadness and outrage. “This absolutely breaks my heart,” replied one user on Twitter. “One of the most beautiful places on this planet and the deeds of a few are going to end up ruining it for all.”

“I hope they are caught and are made to scrub the public restrooms in Yosemite for 10 years (without gloves and with their own toothbrushes),” a Facebook commenter responded.

Rangers with the National Park Service’s Investigative Services Branch are asking anyone hiking the trail to the top of Yosemite Falls between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. on May 20 and saw anyone carrying spray paint, tagging rocks or may have photos or video to leave a tip online at go.nps.gov/SubmitATip, email [email protected], or call or send a text message to 888-653-0009.

LAPD and the FBI maintain a graffiti database that is very, very extensive. Shouldn't be too hard to correlate park passes with the graffiti affiliations and at leat get close. Depends on how much work the Rangers want to put in.

Hopefully they are caught and punished. If I remember correctly some dumbass sprayed graffiti in one of the TX state parks (Enchanted Rock?) and they were caught by their social media post pictures.

This is a perfect representation of California. Parents owned business property for another 15 years after retiring from their primary business.

How many times do you think we got tagged and fucked over by bums camping out on our property.

Finally the impact to the average Californian's quality of life is boiling iver into some of the sacred spots. Now suddenly the problem is out of hand because some rocks got fucked up with some spray paint.

Seems all too fucking poetic that the state values some rocks more than the personal property of it's citizens.

I vote leave the tagging there, it represents what California has truely become. It is much more accurate a representation than the lie that the state is as beautiful as it's parks. Even better spray paint some squirrels to match.

Let the park reflect that this is the result of liberalism.

Ever since I was a kid I've always wanted to spray paint some graffiti on something. Maybe like a train car or something. I've never done it.

Even as somebody like me who has some interest in spraying graffiti, I gotta say this is way too far. It's upsetting. It will be hard to prove, but I wouldn't be surprised if they figure out who did this. It seems they are from Fresno.

I was on that trail last summer. Such an amazing park. Beautiful. If you haven’t gone, you should. You owe it to yourself.

Not just piece of shit hood culture, but this is part of the Instagram Effect. Basically it’s people ruining the very beauty they sought out. The easier to access the more shit you’ll see like this. Grand Canyon has shit everywhere.

I don’t give a fuck that you loved Yolanda in 2016. You’re either in jail and she’s fucking Pedro or she’s got three baby daddies and you’re raising one of them wondering why he’s got darker skin. I love the trails up there. Been up half dome 6 times.

Unfortunately the penalty is only 6 months and $500. Hopefully for each offense. The good thing is if caught there is a federal court house in Yosemite. If they opt for a jury trial it gets moved to Fresno where there are facilities for a jury.

I found that out the hard way when I was a kid and got DUI.

I hope they drive off a cliff on the way back to Fresno. Shit bags.
