So what's the kid's name and what bike is he riding...what's his background and bio?
Sounds like a good movie script. |

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from His workmanship, so that men are without excuse.

There is a Dutch kid that lives in Australia, he flew over to America bought a 500 KTM in San Diego. He got on the Bike road it all the way to La Paz with the intention of entering the Baja 1000. He needed a fuel brake (I don’t even know what that is?). A gps tracker and they said he needed new tires.. scrounged it all up and entered and ran a large portion of the race in 2nd place!!
He stopped at some random pit and they gave him some water and tacos and he was off again. Stopped at another random pit with a bent rim and they zip tied the front tire to the rim and he’s about 50 miles out from finishing right now.. I’m not sure what place he is in but I think it’s still top ten. To iron man this race is crazy.. even finishing is an accomplishment. This kid is doing pretty well with zero pre running, zero support, just him a backpack (which I’m presuming has his clothes and his passport in it?) and a ktm 500. He’s about 45 miles our right now.. My wife who doesn’t randomly care about Offroad racing has been watching the tracker all night and updates.. crazy inspirational story. It doesn’t matter which baja1000 feed you click on everybody is talking about this guy and rooting for him. It’s absolutely incredible. Just scrolling one of the feeds and every post is about him. CITATION For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty as commanding officer of the U.S.S. Johnston in action against major units of the Japanese fleet during the battle off Samar on 25 October 1944. The first to lay a smoke screen and to open fire as an enemy task force, vastly superior in number, firepower, and armor, rapidly approached, Comdr. Evans gallantly diverted the powerful blasts of hostile guns from the lightly armed and armored carriers under his protection, launching the first torpedo attack when the Johnston came under straddling Japanese shellfire. Undaunted by damage sustained under the terrific volume of fire, he unhesitatingly joined others of his group to provide fire support during subsequent torpedo attacks against the Japanese and, outshooting and outmaneuvering the enemy as he consistently interposed his vessel between the hostile fleet units and our carriers despite the crippling loss of engine power and communications with steering aft, shifted command to the fantail, shouted steering orders through an open hatch to men turning the rudder by hand, and battled furiously until the Johnston, burning and shuddering from a mortal blow, lay dead in the water after three hours of fierce combat. Seriously wounded early in the engagement, Comdr. Evans, by his indomitable courage and brilliant professional skill, aided materially in turning back the enemy during a critical phase of the action. His valiant fighting spirit throughout this historic battle will venture as an inspiration to all who served with him. |

https://fee.org/articles/herbert-dow-and-predatory-pricing/
Dow secretly hired British and German agents to market his repackaged bromine in their countries. They had no trouble doing so because the Bromkonvention had left the world price above 30 cents a pound. The Germans were selling in the United States far below cost of production, and they hoped to offset their U.S. losses with a high world price. Instead, the Germans were befuddled. They expected to run Dow out of business; and this they thought they were doing. But why was U.S. demand for bromine so high? And where was this flow of cheap bromine into Europe coming from? Was one of the Bromkonvention members cheating and selling bromine in Europe below the fixed price? The tension in the Bromkonvention was dramatic. According to Dow, “The German producers got into trouble among themselves as to who was to supply the goods for the American market, and the American agent [for the Germans] became embarrassed by reason of his inability to get goods that he had contracted to supply and asked us if we would take his [15-cent] contracts. This, of course, we refused to do.” |
