In the context above a “Wotsit” is basically a generic word that replaces some word that might not be for polite company. King of like “thingy”.
In the above example I’d suggest it was a replacement for “shit” or “crap”, but it could be anything.
People also sometimes use it when the forget the name of something. You know “the thing - the what's it called.”
The wotsit snack was named after that word.
