Allow me to offer this....
I am a member of another forum not related to guns. Last year they decided to launch a politics only section and political discussion was banned on the general board because some of the more enlightened folks got butthurt. Then the people who were butthurt on the general board got more butthurt in the politics board. Then they decided to get on the politics board you had to be invited and have a password. Guess what happened? It’s a dead forum, both the general board and the political one. |

I sometimes fall asleep dreaming of such things.
 Trouble is, everything is political now. People have become so hyper-tribal in their zeal to root out the "others", that virtually everything has become a "tell" for which tribe you belong to. There's no escaping it. You have to constantly show your fealty, even with the fucking consumer products you happen to own. It's gone completely off the rails. This isn't an arfcom thing, it's a societal thing. Honestly - if I were tasked with moving all political threads to a dedicated forum, there would literally be hundreds of edge cases. Because again - politics have poisoned everything. |

It is a shame how team jerseys and sports stars, that GD typically mocks in the actual sport arena, have become status quo for political discussions. It's not new with this President, however, the last 4 years have sent the binary thought into overdrive. When your loyalty to the cause is measured by the size of the Trump flag on your '02 Silverado, the plot has been completely lost. |
