This is SN and her daughter at Disneyland before she got sick. She had just resolved one major issue in her life, and, at the time, it looked like she might finally catch a break. We were just chatting via IM and I was ragging on her that all I'd ever seen of her was a picture of her ankles and did she think one day I might see one maybe up to her knees. She sent me this and groused that I was so nosey there should be a special word just for me. It made me really happy at the time, because I took it to mean that I'd made it into her circle of trust. Now it just makes me cry.

So glad that you did. I said this in Night Crew, but of all the people on arfcom, I can count on one hand those who really "get" me. Splint was one. She understood my low tolerance for bullshit. Totally got it. Not many people do. And she was beautiful. Damn. I'm sending prayers for her lovely daughter. Splint was one hell of a graphic designer. I'd hoped we would work together on a project in the future. Damn. |

She and I started corresponding a year or so back after I responded to her about a post she'd made, and it became a regular exchange of messages and phone calls after a bit. A few short months ago she very rapidly lost the use of an arm and was subsequently diagnosed with cancer that had spread to her brain. After that she wasn't on the site much, both because of the difficulty posting due to her mobility issues and the treatments were pretty wearing on her. I have stayed in touch with her daughter and sister when calling and texting became an issue for her due to the disease and the treatment. She overcame a lot in her personal life and leaves behind a teen aged daughter. Some of you regulars had also been in contact with her during these recent hard times she's been having, and I thought you might want to know The world need more women like her and instead we have 1 less.
