Yeah this fits in the “Creepy Thread” and I posted it there too. I’m special I guess so I’m making my own thread about it. I haven’t shared any of this for a very long time and my mind started wondering here a bit ago at work and I started dwelling on it and figured it would make a good thread.

The mere fact that I’m about to start typing all of this has me shivering almost because of how scary it was at my age.

Born and raised in Daviston, Alabama. Quite possibly the smallest town in America or at least it felt like it with less than 200 residents at the time. My earliest memory of this is around 1991ish.

The house we were living in was built in the 1920’s and was a pretty damn big house for a single story. Around about the time I was three to four years old I had developed a habit of waking up at 2-3am pretty frequently for no apparent reason. Sometimes I would fall right back asleep and other times I would lay there wide awake in bed in my room for what seemed like an eternity. Sometimes I would wake up hearing foot steps in the hallway just outside my bedroom thinking it was one of my parents so I would go investigate only to find out that no one was there. I ALWAYS had a feeling that something was staring at me when this happened. My parents would always say that they were asleep and it wasn’t them. My sister slept in a twin bed in the same room as me and she would never woke up like I did. The footsteps I would hear sounded like an adult walking swiftly/briskly from the living room through the hallway and not soft child like steps.

One night I get woke up to what sounds like an old door with rusty hinges slowly opening and closing again and again and again. None of the doors in the house had that issue for their age. There was however a door size cut out in my bedroom wall that had been repurposed into shelving for kids toys and such and that’s where the sound was coming from. I confirmed it by walking up to the shelving cutout and listening and it was spot on coming from there. It stopped about the time I climbed back into bed that night and my half brother(moms first marriage) was over that weekend and he asked me if I heard that noise too to which I said yes. He said it started long before I woke up to it and it scared him so bad that he couldn’t move. He was the fearless brother who took care of me and our sister as a big brother should so when I heard him say that is when the fear really set in for me. The next day we told our dad how it had woke both of us up and how we both heard it. He said that used to be a door way into the back laundry room from our room when the house was originally built and that it was sealed off and shelved the way it was prior to us buying the house. He wasn’t sure what the noise we heard exactly was, but he assured us it was fine. Later that next day my brother and I were running around the house chasing one another and we ran into a closet that joined my room and our parents room and we noticed a cutout in the ceiling for an access to the attic. This was homemade as shit becuase you could clearly see the saw marks in the ceiling wood and there was 2x4’s nailed into the wall for steps. We climbed up into the attic and started walking around to this new found playground of rusty nails and dust and old wood and we found a jigsaw puzzle of a homestead just lying under an inch of dust. It was incomplete by about a 1/4 of the pieces missing. We thought it was very odd that that was up there but we didn’t tell anyone for fear of getting into trouble for being somewhere we were suppose to be.

The foot steps and that door hinge noise didn’t stop for years. It would never happen when my parents were in our room and only between 2-3am time frame and there would be no wind blowing outside to help explain anything. Around six years old I started seeing shadow figures outside my bedroom door into the hallway which was only lit by moonlight coming in from the connecting porch window. Definite man size shadow figures that seemed to peer into our bedroom as if it were wanting to play a game or some shit(think penny wise the clown). My dad is a tall broad shouldered guy and my mom was a petite size woman and neither of their body types fit the silhouette I was seeing. My folks decided no more Friday the 13th or Evil Dead for us kids. This still happened up until we moved in 1997 when I was ten years old.

Right before I left for the navy in 06’, my dad and I were setting around the fire pit in our yard(different house) and sharing stories of good times growing up and I for the first time asked him if he thought that house was haunted. He immediately showed emotions of discomfort. He said “yes it was haunted”. Time stood still in that moment as I asked him what he knew because I could tell he had experienced something too.

He said my mom was working second shift at the local textile plant so she wouldn’t get home till almost midnight most of the time and he said one night he woke up to the sound of the bedroom door opening and hearing footsteps next to her side of the bed. He didn’t look because he knew it was her he said. After a couple of minutes of not hearing anything he said he felt the weight of the bed shift a bit like she had sat down. Again, after not hearing anything, he rolled over and looked and said he saw the impression of the bed raise up from where “something” had sat down. He flipped the light switch on the lamp and said he heard foot steps right there in the room as if they were walking out of the room. In the rush of that moment he said he heard my mom coming into the kitchen door from work and ran in there to tell her what had just happened.

Another story dad shared that night:

One Saturday morning my mom and sister and I were going to town to see my grandma and buy groceries. Dad stayed home to work on his jon boat trailer. He said after he got done with that he went into the house to get something to drink and sat down in his recliner. He said about 15 minutes passed and he heard the kitchen door open and what sounded like my sister and I running through the kitchen into the dining room. He said he got up to see if mom needed help getting the groceries in the house and the kitchen door was standing wide open. He walks up to the door and nothing…..Her car wasn’t in the drive way and there was no sign of human activity whatsoever. He said that ”struck him sideways” because he knew without a doubt he had heard my sister and I running through the house and and he heard the kitchen door open. That kitchen door was slightly misaligned and took a good amount of force to open the clasp/latch from the door handle. My sister and I weren’t strong enough as kids to do that.

Dad said he went to see some old folks who had lived in that little town since the 30’s to see if he could get some history on the house. Well apparently prior to the house being built there, it was an old farm home place where an old man lived by himself farming what bit he could physically do by himself. During the civil war supposedly Soldiers on horseback came to the home place and essentially destroyed everything he had and took his farm animals for food or something. After a tussle, the old man was shot and in his breathe he said he would curse them or some shit.

Come to find out, that old man’s shack of a home once stood in the far back of our back yard near the tree line and as a kid I always felt weird going back there and this was a four acre property our house was on so it was a lot of play room for a kid. I had no knowledge of this man or his home or what happened to him, yet I felt that weirdness in that part of the yard like I was trespassing type of feeling. All of this information my dad sought out was from old timers who had grew up there in the early 1900’s time frame so it wasn’t carved in stone so to speak, but that home place in the back yard eerily lined right up with my odd feelings in that particular spot.

Fuck I’m glad that’s over with.

Edit: When I was 16, a Mexican family bought and moved into that old house. The son was my age and in my same classes and spoke good English and he told me about that house they had just bought and moved into a couple months before. I was telling him all the places I used to play on that property as a kid when I lived there and he would call out physical structures and stuff to relate. He then mentioned that the house makes noises. Come to find out, he was sleeping in the same bedroom I did as a kid and said he heard footsteps all the time and other knocking sounds in the walls. I never once mentioned what I went through because I didn’t want to scare him. They moved from that house not six months later.

Damn bro. That would scare the absolute shit out of me. I live in a place that is supposedly haunted, but have fortunately never experienced anything, ever. As a result, I’ve never really believed in “that stuff”. Then I hear stories like yours, from people I trust, and it makes me wonder. I wonder if some folks are more in tune to it than others?

Regardless, I’m glad I never experience shit like that, because I certainly don’t want to.

Yeah I hear ya. Most folks go an entire lifetime without ever experiencing stuff like that and then there’s folks like me who had it happen very early on. I’ve only ever been in one other house and experienced other stuff, but what I posted above is by far the most bizarre. My dads ex girlfriend’s daughter in law now resides in that house and as of about 10-12 years ago they haven’t experienced anything which is odd too.

Well shit I'll share.
Back in middle school one summer we moved into an old 4 bedroom rental house close to my school. On move in day I noticed the brand spankin new carpet in the living room in a pretty dated house. I remember my mom painting the walls of the living room and her mentioning a spot on the wall that bled through the paint, I saw the spot with my own eyes and personally saw my mom paint over that spot a few times. My sister and I shared a bedroom on the 2nd floor because none of us wanted anything to do with sleeping in the attic, the attic was split into two rooms and they had eaves that attached the rooms. I remember opening up the small door to the eaves and crawling in about 3 feet, I recall seeing stacks and stacks of plastic models still in their boxes, mainly WW2 themed, I never had the guts to check out the eaves from end to end as I always had a feeling that I was being watched up there.

Often at night my sister and I would hear creaking floor boards and foot steps coming down the stairs and doors opening, especially the door at the bottom of the stairs.

I remember when school started I was pumped to tell everyone about my new house, a friend of one of my friends approached me later in the day and told me that I had moved into his grandfather's house, I invited this kid over to check out the house but he refused telling me that his grandfather passed away in the house and that his grandfather's body wasn't discovered for a while. At that point I kinda felt shitty. This kid told me that his grandfather's body decomposed into the old flooring. I  remember going back home and telling my dad, he confirmed it basically saying that the previous owner cooked into the flooring. My dad was a homicide detective so it didn't phase him one bit. We stayed in the house for approximately 8 months until my parents were told that the home owners were selling. Once we were out of the house my parents admitted that the house freaked them out.

My mom told me that she went back to the house a few days after we moved out to clear out a few things in the shed and she found a note on the stairs of the house saying that the house was haunted. Whenever I think about that house I get the chills.

Never saw an apparition in the house but you would always have the feeling you were being watched. I could be running around the house having fun and come to a sudden stop and the feeling of excitement would disappear and you would feel different. The feeling was hard to explain and I never felt that feeling after we moved.

My parents years later would tell me that they hated the house and especially the attic and basement my mom claims to have seen something in the yard one day. Honestly just typing about the house and looking back on it is creepy.

The house is now torn down

I like a good ghost story. They are just that however; stories.

If there were really ghosts, we'd be up to our armpits in them. A lot of people have died since man appeared on this earth. Not counting animals; logic demands they would leave spirits behind as well.

There are strange things that happen to folks, no denying that. To attribute them to something paranormal just doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Show me the solid evidence; not recounted tales and hokey photos and videos on the internet.

When I was really little, I thought I could see "particles" in the air stream at night. Kinda like dust, but not. I remember staring when the lights were turned out at bedtime, way past the time my eyes would adjust, and I thought I could see energy streams in the air and around objects. Probably when I was about 6 or so. And yes, my Mom kept a dust free house, and no, there were no hallucinogenics in the house.

When it comes to ghosts I consider myself an open minded skeptic.  Never experienced anything like this and always try to be rational.

Coworker told me his interesting story.  As a kid he used to wake up in the middle of the night to see some little kid in his bedroom.  Usually sitting on the end of his bed.  If ever he moved or acknowledged it’s presence in anyway it would instantly vanish.   Was just something that happened from time to time.  Then as he became a teenager it stopped.  He told his mom about this once and she admitted it happened to her when she was a kid living in that house.  Same scenario too.  Just a static apparition that sudden vanishes when you try to acknowledge it or get a better look or something.  Also as she got older it ceased as well.  Ghost is only seen by children for some reason.

It’s interesting with ghost sittings as it seems many are re-enactments of something that happened in the past.  Like a recording got made in the fabric of time that for some reason gets partially replayed.

For those that don't sense anything, some people seem to have a predisposition for seeing or being sensitive to these things. In my case, I'm pretty sure it was passed on to me from my dad's side of the family. I got the stuff scared out of my at about age 10, that story is in a thread in the Paranormal section. "10 years Old and New House" was my title.

I grew up in a supposedly-haunted house from the '20s.  It's on a weird street that cuts into the corner of a cemetery, with the back yard butting up against the burial sites.  My mother and siblings all said they experienced paranormal activity.

My mother still lives there.  I don't think she's claimed any recent experiences, but my adult niece doesn't like to be there by herself.  I'm not sure if she claims to have experienced anything, but I just chalk it up to her hearing stories, and creeping herself out.

I have never experienced anything out of the normal at that house (or anywhere, for that matter).  I'm the youngest, so maybe the good stuff stopped by the time I was old enough to remember.  Or, maybe my mom and siblings are all nuts.  Whatever the case, they all swear stuff happened, and I have no idea what they're talking about.  I do know that the house is 100 years old, and that old houses shift and make a lot of weird noises.

Lived in a house that was once owned by a WW2 Navy UDT man who slipped and drowned in our bathtub.

He would state at us through windows at night. Rocking chair would start rocking on its own.
One night the cellar door that we never used opened.

A previous owner told the neighbors she couldn't live there anymore, sold everything and split..

When I was between ages 6-8 my family lived in a then fairly new low income townhouse complex.

I immediately disliked the place as it had a heavy somber vibe.

It felt like you were always being watched in there, and doors and cupboards never seemed to stay as you left them.

One night my mom was reading me a bedtime story and all of a sudden out of the blue the door to my room opened. Not only was there was no one there but the way that it opened was unsettling. It happened so incredibly fast that it looked like a video with skipped frames.

I believe. Aside from some personal experiences, I grew up in an area with a lot of Civil War history and there are plenty of stories about things happening attributed to that.

Being close to people with certain sensitivities has also reinforced my belief that there are lots of things going on around us that most aren't aware of.

There is some strange and unexplained crap around us which we don't understand.

A whole lot of the "don't see it because they refuse to" type things, like out of Sixth Sense with kids being more sensitive to strange stuff but then get told it's all nothing by adults, who just assume it is all nothing as they're maybe blocking it out somehow.

Too many stories like the one OP (and rest of Creepy Thread) involving places and oddly overlapping stories and histories that just get ignored because "that's not real".

The one real thing that is unexplained but verified factual are several stories of people giving away their dog because they're moving to another state or even across the nation, then having the dog they gave away show up at their new house months/years later.   There really isn't a rational explanation for stuff like that, but it happens.   Maybe the dogs/pets are more linked to this crazy stuff the way kids are and can act on what they see instead of being afraid of it and shutting it out.

That's not to say invite that crap into your life, too many crazy and tragic things happen with Ouija boards as well, all written off as impossible but again, too many overlapping stories far beyond imagination going wild from watching a scary movie or reading a horror/terror related book.

One doctor did a peer reviewed study that showed dogs knew when their owners were coming home.  This happened with varying routes, bus delays, leaving work early or late, and other unexpected changes in schedule, the dog would change behavior around the time the owner decided to go home and left work or wherever he was.   This study was back in the 80s/90s before internet and pet cams and all other things which could explain it away today, so that stuff is strange.   I need to remember the doctor who published it, he was right on the line between "psychology" and "paranormal" so didn't publish for peer review several of his studies as they turned out too strange.  The dog one was the only published one that was on/over the line to paranormal and he kept his "real studies" related to hard psychology rather than "I'll prove it wrong" studies then realizing he ended up proving some phenomenon to exist instead of the opposite goal.

You'll hear it from everybody, friends, parents, pastors, priests - "never invite an unknown into your life, stay the hell away from Ouija board" and other things the church attributes to messaging satanic forces or similar.   Lots of people play with the Ouija board and can have it written off as psychomotor response, then there's the tiny percentage that really has crap go sideways for them.   Several books and movies like "Poltergeist" and "The Exorcist" are based on or entirely re-created actual stories - this isn't something everybody is told  about to know it is there or not, or mass psychosis, etc the stories are based on real events, possibly embellished but just the same, real types of events.

Dog That Seems To Know When His Owner is Coming Home  (2000s but references study in the 90s I mentioned above)

i subscribed to this thread so i can read it some day when i have time. my first thoughts are of my ex fiancee and her best friend calling spirits on a quija board in my house before i was aware they were off doing anything like that. my house went absolutely haywire along with my life in a downward spiral. my story might top em all. for certain demons are real. GOD is real.

ephesians 6:12 comes to mind

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood , but against the rulers , against the authorities , against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms

theres a very real spirit world out there that we are mostly unaware of

My little sister never had an experience at the house in my story either or at least she has never mentioned it. My mom passed away shortly before we moved from that house so I don’t know if she experienced anything either. I honestly do feel like stuff like this may happen to those of us that are more sensitive to it regardless of one’s personality or emotional state. My dad for example, was and still is tough as nails with any and everything. He is very religious and has always been a god fearing man and he experienced the stuff he said he did. My sister was just as impressionable as me for our age and if anything had more innocence about her and never experienced it. Hell I actually asked my best friend of 30 years a few mo the ago what he thought about that house when we were kids and he said it freaked him too. He said there times when he would come over for sleep overs that he would hear noises in the house too. Idk how it happens to certain people and others not.

It also "stopped on a dime", somehow stopping short of smashing into the wall beside it as you would expect from the enormous speed that it had opened.

That’s freaky as hell man. Especially knowing what it feels like coming from a kid’s perspective having been there myself.

I used to routinely dream about a skeletal figure in a cloak standing at the foot of my bed, and screaming at me. as a young child.

I also dreamt the birch trees would reach through the windows and pull me outside (it was a second floor window)

Ive never had such vivid, consistent  night terrors than when i lived in that house.
