Out to dinner, stopped by a local jeweler that's the AD for TAG, Breitling, Omega, Longines and also has some nice (but overly high priced) used Rolex. Wife was looking at a fancy Rolex (36 OP with diamonds, Everose from what I recall)....asking $26K...! She said "I just couldn't fathom spending that for a watch!" WHEW!!! Unfortunately though, the MUCH, MUCH more affordable Longines pieces did not trip her trigger....we looked at a TAG Monaco (the new design released this past week), really cool....not sure if we want to drop the coin on it though...have one seen one in the wild, a buddy's....who, like me, is REALLY into cars / racing....she liked the new TAG Formula 1 - one of the plasticky (is that a word? LOL) looking pastel bezels, but with diamonds...and then a Carrera with a lavendar face, with diamonds too....so...we will see... |

I'm not really much of a watch guy (not enough disposable income) but I still really like my Tag I bought in '00. Gains about 6 seconds a month. Not mine but it could be a twin of mine.

Longines has quickly become my favorite affordable “luxury” brand. Yeah I know it is not luxury, but the Hydroconquest and Conquest lines really do live up to the moniker of 80% of the watch that a comparable Rolex is for 1/6 to 1/8 the price. Granted that 20% difference between Rolex and Longines is significant, not claiming they are the same, but for stainless steel tool watches, I have a hard time justifying $11k when I can get a Longines for under $2k. One huge difference is Longines don’t hold value… but that’s fine as I usually buy used. This 2022 Hydroconquest was $750 delivered with box, papers, steel bracelet and rubber strap. Hard to beat!
