Watching "siege of jadotville" and FAL porn has me intrigued...

Preferably rifle that doesn't weigh 20 pounds...

M1 Garand.  Go with a classic.  Sure, the M14 clones or FALs work, but there is something to be said for wood and steel.

17 for a battle rifle, MWS for a DMR. KAC if I couldn’t decide. The KAC CC looks like a damn good compromise though.

A large frame AR with a lighter weight receiver set and a faxon pencil will get into the small frame weight class.

As a G3 owner, uh, AR10.

Other than for retro reasons there's no reason to not get an AR10

FAL. Or L1A1. Better yet, both.

I really like Imbel.

But short barrels on 7.62x51? No thank you. My tinnitus is bad enough from loud amps and shooting.

I should probably clarify that I have a LWRC REPR for DMR work. Easily weighs 20 pounds with optic and bipod, etc. Fantastic at range though.

I was wanting something that could be carried vs only useful in static position.

FAL or Scar are my favorites.  DSA makes a great scope mount for the FAL and you can find smaller barrel lengths if you so desire.  Mines a Belgian parts kit I had them build on their lower.  I hit 4/10 at 1000 with it using an Atibal 1-10 FFP scope in a Larue mount.  I had to use an improvised check rest.
If I had the money I’d probably get the Scar 20 because I hit at 1000 4/5 shots.  So 80% is better but less than two grand on a scope and rifle is better for my wallet.

FAL, may not be the most accurate, but it eats all kinds of ammo, and keeps going.

Very little to go wrong with it.

Scar 17.  Light, soft shooting, and far more accurate than a g3 or fal.
