My dad always wanted one of these:

He grew up in the same era as "Ralphie" from a Christmas Story, and he saw magazine advertisements for the 99 growing up in Jamestown, NY.

He taught me to hunt, and I dreamed of taking him on a chartered mule deer hunt out west, with that rifle he dreamt about as a boy.

My father died of cancer in 2011.  I never did take him on that hunt; never even bought him the rifle.

Those of you with dads still alive:

- dig deep this Christmas and get your dad something to really let him know how much he means to you.

I bought he and I tickets to see a concert featuring a few composers' work, headlining with pieces from Beethoven and Wagner (his favorites) performed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.  He hasn't had the extra to go to the Symphony for awhile now so I'm taking him.

I also bought him a cheap meat grinder so he can make his own bologna and ham salad.

Dad tells my brother and I never to get him anything and we usually don't, but I got one of those special edition Tabasco sauces from that thread on here the other day.

He likes Tabasco and I know he's never had that one so I figured why not. I'll say it's from the kids anyhow so he'll be okay with getting something from them

Seeing as how he spends half his time (maybe more) at the family farm and likes to tinker with things, he's getting tobacco seeds, cannabis seeds, and books on how to grow them.

simple stuff- cold weather work gloves, a new winter hat, and a tracphone card.  And feeding him prime rib on Christmas day.

I've given TVs, rifles, and other assorted big stuff over the years, along with stuff to make life more convenient. He's 80 and doesn't want or need much anymore.  Just likes spending time with the family.

Thinking about splitting the cost of a .22lr Henry rifle with my brother. I can remember when I was little sitting in his lap and a Henry commercial came on, he commented that he wanted one. For some reason that stuck.

He's got plenty of .22s but so what.

We're taking him on a hike to hopefully find this massive gator near my parent's house in a national wildlife refuge. He's been wanting to see it forever and the wife and I are surprising him with ferry tickets and a day with us and the siblings. He is very wealthy and buys whatever he wants but he can't seem to ever get enough time with his kids (and we're about to have his first grandkid).

One of the heritage .50 call pistol kits.

Last year he got a .50 call cannon.

Next year Musket.

He's a dirty Fudd so this is right up his alley and he needs excuses to hide in the basement.
