Considering getting back on 2 wheels I have previously owned a R3 and a KLR 650

R3 was fun but I don’t like the ride posistion, and the high insurance associated with a “crotch rocket”
KLR 650 heavy, slow, terrible in my limited opinion.

Would like something I can easily cruise down the freeway at 85 without it sounding and feeling like it’s going to blow up
Comfortable for longer ride times
Ability to roll on gravel
Light adventuring

This will most likely be my only bike for at least awhile.

Considering the Yamaha T700
KTM 790 Adventure (hear hit or miss reliability issues) also made in China from what I have heard
Honda 750 transalp

Price- 15k max

For what you describe, I say Transalp

The Transalp has been one of my Bucket List bikes since I saw them around Europe in 1995.  A few times I came close to getting a 80's version, but never completed the deal.  I may just have to see how the bank account is looking and how the knees feel next spring.

Skip the KTM 790 anything. Just pick up a 2-3yr used KTM 1290 Adventure S. Well within your price range.  That's going to be your "mainly street, sometimes off-road ADV" bike.

The T700 really interests me. I haven't ridden one but seems like it fits what you are looking for. I will say that if you spend a lot of time on the highway it's hard to beat bigger bikes. They make eating up miles easy.

T700 or the Transalp from your list.

That price range will get you into a lightly used Africa Twin

T7 or mid-weight ktm.
I like my 1190R, but I like my 525 too.
If I only had one, I'd split the difference between the two.

V-strom 1000 or 1050 and have enough cash left over to take a couple trips.

Could pick up a DR650 or XR650 to rip on the dirt with the left over cash.

I don't know the V-Strom 1000 that well, but my 650 did okay sustaining at 95 or so on flat rural freeway.

But it is not a great dirt bike.

Find a used KTM 890 Adventure or Adventure R.

Any of the new adventure type bikes I think would scratch that itch. Personally I'm a fan of the BMW F800/900 more so than than the more performance oriented Ktms.

The transalp,  Vstrom 650, Yamaha t700 are all excellent bikes too from what I seen and read. The weestrom I've ridden a handful of times and think that little twin is an absolute sweetheart of a motor. Been around for a long time and reliable.

I just snagged a new leftover '23 Suzuki DL650 Vstrom with 2 miles on it yesterday. Paid $6.5K+all the fluff it was $8.5K cash out the door. MSRP was $9,104. Ride now quoted me $11,440 out the door for a '24. lol

A leftover might be something to consider.

2 wheel dyno works has done great things with the Transalp.

With a filter and exhaust and their ECU tune, it went from 77 rwhp to 87 rwhp.
