I think coins will be better for that. Nothing wrong with adding a few goldbacks to the portfolio though. They look nice. |

OK, the note/bill contains X amount of gold. How easily/efficiently recoverable is that gold (can you drop it into a crucible and get 99.9% of that gold out)? If it's a pain in the ass to extract from the note/bill....I question its utility as a backup currency/trade item (versus, say, Silver Coins or Rounds). Looks cool, though. |

Personally, I'd stick with silver over gold. For a few reasons. Just my opinion, not financial advice. ETA- if you have an account approved for options, I'd be looking at SPY/SPX/ES/QQQ and others... to grab dated puts. (SPY JUN18 640P look good to me) |

Welcome to arfcom! I don’t disagree with your post, especially at the current state of goldbacks. They are not going to be popular easily. They do make sense as a somewhat backed small denomination currency and they offer some artistic images. I’m not sure how counterfeit resistant they are. I don’t think they will have great success, but I have been wrong before. |

They look kind of neat, bought some as xmass presents but really more of a novelty than anything and the cost for what you're getting is ehhh. I have no intention of ever buying more. also know that if you leave them in direct sunlight the image fades/disappears rather quickly like within a few months so be careful displaying them. I assume the "gold" is still in the note but no idea how to check that |
