Not rejected but right before I went in for an oral board with the Clearwater Police Department, I was told that they would not do the interview with me because I did not have sixty college credits, I was nine short. The funny part is that in two weeks when I was going to graduate the academy, I would have had thirty-three more. The oral boards were taking place in a room at the academy that afternoon. Their loss. |
| There was a psychiatrist that used to fail candidates if they carried as permited civilians. Guess she was anti-gun. One guy former Marine hired own psychiatrist, passed so they needed a 3rd one that was agreed upon bt his attorney & the town. He passed but eventually dropped out of process. His current employer made a counter offer with increase in salary and stocks shares. He was employed as security specialist for CEO of a corporation. |

Oh yeah in the 90’s the question was “do you own an assault weapon, and if so why” As though anyone who owned an AR was a hair trigger away from going postal…. Like I said, a lot of shrinks are trying to fix themselves. The one my second agency used, everyone liked him, he seemed pretty decent…right until he killed himself. Needless to say when I went there I got to deal with Dr Jackass (again). (He still passed me again though ). |

Mine was a temporary rejection For corrections. The initial background and questionnaire asked “have you ever been officially reprimanded for behavior at work” I said no Then on the huge background check later in the process they asked “have you ever received a written warning at work” I said yes They flagged it as I lied on the initial questionnaire I appealed to the department head. He agreed that if my employer would write a letter of recommendation and confirm my story then he’d allow it. Ex boss wrote the letter and I was passed through. I got cleared for hire but ended up declining the offer |

About 25 years ago I tried to volunteer for the San Diego County Sheriff. I have never been arrested or charged or convicted or spent time in a penitentiary. I had a few traffic tickets. The application was quite lengthy and I disclosed that I had smoked weed in Highschool, that would be 1978. They brought me in for an interview and when the officer interviewing me reviewed my application, he asked me if the weed smoking disclosure was accurate. I told him it was and I haven’t smoked weed since 1979. He looked at me, dead serious, and said, I’m gunna do you a favor. He ripped my application in half, dropped it in the trash can and said……..I am going to forget I ever saw this. |

I went through the entire hiring process and at the oral board the Chief told me that there were 2 active reserve officers who scored lower in the hiring process and he wanted to hire them. A friend of mine went through the same process and got the same answer from that Chief. We both got hired at the agency that we both retired from, and he retired as the agency chief. |
| In The early 90s when I was searching for my first department I applied to pretty much all of the local agencies around the metro area. Probably six or seven. I was being processed by one and they disqualified me from continuing on from the process because they said I had too many active applications out at one time. |

As a commercial fisherman I was jumping boat to boat for about 5 years until I found a home. To an Alaskan it would be a good job history. 'This guy always has a job. He's worked on the same boats often. He must be pretty good.' To a tug and barge company it was lethal. 'This guy can't keep a job'. This was pre internet as we know it. I figured I wasn't going to get hired so I decided to go for broke and wrote off the entire 5 years with 'French Foreign Legion. Highest rank corporal'. and planned on going home unemployed. Little did I know I had belted one out of the park. I was interviewed almost instantly and thank God for junior high school French! I interviewed Monday and sailed as an ordinary seaman on Wednesday. |
