They are on-par with Seiko and Casio's I've got one of these from the P/X purchased in the late 80's should resurrect it. (interwebs pic) Attached File |

Overall they're a good everyday watch. I'm a big fan of the Promaster line, I have several Promaster divers and a couple Promaster Land GMTs. This is one of my Promaster divers, it's just a fancied up version of the standard black or blue divers, all of which have the basically bulletproof E168 Eco Drive movement: Attached File Protip for anyone that uses these divers with the really stiff rubber strap, take the straps off the watch anb put them in a coffee mug so the straps line the circumference of the mug. Then pour boiling, and I mean rolling boil hot water in the cup. Let it set for 2-3 minutes, then dump out the hot water and replace with ice water for about a minute. Then take out the straps, which now have a curved shape that matches the mug. Reattach to watch. The watch will fit much better on your wrist. |
Welcome to wherever you are.

They tell me that because of a delay in repair due to backordered parts that they are refunding my payment for the out of warranty repairs. In January they informed that they are moving their Texas repair facility and that all repairs are being sent to Japan. They further say that because of the length of time I've been without the watch they will send me a new watch free of charge and that once my damaged watch is returned from Japan they will send that to me as well. Citizens are good Japanese watches. I have a Rolex Explorer II which is a very nice watch but frankly it is primitive compared to my Seiko. If I don't wear the Rolex every day I have to manually wind it and set the time and date. I have a Seiko that is 13 years old and if I go on vacation and wear a different watch all I have to do is pick it up when I get back and it will automatically set itself to the correct time and day. I never have to adjust the date when there is only 30 days and it automatically adjusts for leap years. In 13 years I have never had to set the time or date. I just checked on the internet for exact time and the Seiko is off by 45 seconds. Nearly perfect after 13 years for a mid-tier Seiko. I'm sure Citizens come in different levels but I would expect a mid or high end Citizen to be an excellent watch. |

| I've had a beater Garrison for around 15 years. Still runs like a champ. The only issue I've ever really had is my 20 year old Ecodrive doesn't hold a charge that long. Throwing it in a window solves that problem. Maybe some day I'll send it out for service. |

| I don't own one but I am kind of surprised at some of the negative posts about them. IMHO the bulk of their watches hit a lower price point than Seiko but I don't think they are any lower quality comparing apples to apples. While there is the Promaster Aqualand they don't have quite the military history that Seiko does with the 6309 and 6105, etc... but many of their models have a lot of really neat features and they'd be my first choice if I were looking for a solar movement. |

I prefer Citizen over Seiko. This is my everyday watch. Thinking about treating myself to an Omega Speedmaster.

Attached File I owned this watch and used it for work for over 10 years as my only watch. The one pictured is a stock photo. Mine was very scratched up. I have moved on to Casio, Luminox, and Breitling. My opinion is Citizen has good movements. The styling in general is close to good but always misses the mark in some respect that makes me not want to own the watches. ETA: I would buy one of these if I could find one for a discount. For many reasons already mentioned, the "Citizen" brand doesn't seem to have the same kind of "Cachet" that other brands do, even Seiko's in the same movement type and price range. I think some consider them too "pedestrian" or common and not worthy of praise or admiration and for many watch guys, its all about that history and cachet that makes a watch or brand covet-ability. |

He sums up what I was trying to relate very well... Citizen has always occupied a strange space in enthusiast conversations. It’s one of the most technically capable watchmakers on the planet, yet it rarely gets talked about with the same reverence as its Swiss or even Japanese peers. Part of that is Citizen’s own doing. They’ve never seemed especially interested in courting collectors all that much. They build tools, solve problems, and then move on |

Im assuming a 6r with a removable case back. They are relatively easy to regulate(essentially 1 lever). There are plenty of videos on yt on how to do it. Ive done it with most of mine and I dont even have a time grapher or app. Just wear it and adjust accordingly, rinse n repeat until you are satisfied. One should know how to properly maintain and take care of their tools/gear/equipment between servicing intervals. |

My SKX007 is my most sentimental watch I own and is by far my most worn watch historically, but the NY0040 is a better watch than the SKX in allot of ways. I agree on the day complication as well, I never had a use for them. Originally Posted By NickOTime: What Seiko/Movement? Im assuming a 6r with a removable case back. The specific watch I was referring to is a Seiko Navigator timer with a 6R54 movement. I daily driver an spb143 62 mas with a 6R35 and it has terrible accuracy as well. I'll check it out, I adore the designs of the 62mas and navigator timer, even with the terrible performance they still get worn everyday, I just wish it was better out of the box for the cost of the watches. |

Just to add some context to my statement: ‘The Citizen’ line isn’t just quartz and isn’t new - the line goes all the way up to $8,400 automatic models, too. Citizen has been actively trying to position it globally for like the last 5+ years or so as a Grand Seiko alternative and failing miserably. Take a look at Citizen’s sales website. Every single model is still in stock, including their “super limited edition, 30th anniversary” quartz models they released last May and tried to hype this time last year (e.g., https://www.citizenwatch-global.com/news/2025/20250312/index.html). Its been so long, they don’t even mention their 30th anniversary on the sales pages for those models because they still haven’t sold all 400 of them… The watches themselves are solid, so it’s just my opinion that they’re not exactly flying off the shelves because “Citizen” and an eagle logo on a $~3-8.4k watch is either confusing or a turnoff to people. To me, it’d be the equivalent of Toyota going with “The Toyota” instead of “Lexus.” If you disagree with that, that’s cool. |

I don't wear a watch to impress people, thus don't particularly care if they have "status." A titanium eco drive has been flawless for me. Light, keeps time perfectly, can dress up or down, not gaudy. I have others but as far as a usable, easy to live with watch I don't know how it could be much better. |

I’m on my second watch in 17 years, both have been Citizen Eco-Drives. My first one went ~13 years until the pin that holds the latch together broke. Watch still worked fine just couldn’t find a replacement band to fit since it had been long discontinued. I was going to just keep wearing it but my wife was worried it’d come off and I’d lose it so got me a new one for our anniversary one year. Current one is a slightly larger and higher end dive model and doubt it’ll ever come off. For me their watches just work, the eco-drive is nice, they keep time and are durable, everything I want. |

I like watches, but I’m not an aficionado. Honestly a lot of watches kinda look the same to me, you could be sporting a $150 chinese build or $1,000+ and I wouldn’t know the difference. I’ve always really like how busy the citizen nighthawks and similar ones are, with the slide rules and chronometers, while still being easy to read the time. It reminds me of complications in old school watches, but with a nod to utility over gaudy, and while there are some Gshocks etc I like, there’s something about analog that just gets me going. I’m also drawn to solar or automatics over battery powered. It’s one of those things where I don’t care about status or brand clout (beyond reputation for consistency), so long as it works reliably and releases dopamine when I look at it. |

Maybe they're trying to pull in some mythical neutral party, but watches like that usually go to existing customers who already have decided, by virtue of being Citizen customers in a world of people who conflate "nice watch" with "Swiss," "Mechanical," or both. You can just smell that snobbery in many threads in this forum. Citizen is not trying to win those people over, it knows it never will. But those people are smaller crowd than their noise will let on. Add to the fact this is a limited edition" type thing, and not the price for even the normal watches with that caliber, and I think this is an "existing customers" angle. Grand Seiko has managed to do pretty well selling premium quartz watches at price points over $3K. I suspect Citizen is trying to feel out the ceiling for that crowd. The profile of these buyers is not anything like the "photo of my loosely strapped Rolex behind the wheel of my Mercedes" crowd, and I think Citizen knows that better than any of us. |

I had a long conversation with another collector and now think that I was 100% wrong. The Japanese term is monozukuri and is a whole philosophy about making the best thing possible. So, the Chronomaster/The Citizen line is likely more about Citizen showing off what they’re capable of making, rather than trying to be a luxury line and Grand Seiko copycat. As an engineering grad and amateur watchmaker, I can totally respect that. I guess almost all Japanese brands do it, too - Casio with MR-G, Seiko with Grand Seiko, etc. Even Toyota apparently has the Century in Japan that starts at like $175k. The Japanese market understands the philosophy so they don’t need brand differentiation the way that Westerners do. After that conversation, I must have geeked out a bit too much watching videos at night about what The Citizen is all about because my wife got me this for Father’s Day: Attached File |

It’s a solid, dependable and accurate piece at a reasonable price. If I ever break it or lose it, I will probably buy the same model again. If Citizen watches are guns Then the cheap ones are PSA daggers: affordable, useable, but nothing special. Mid grade are Glocks: prices are ok, and the just work Expensive ones are like Zev or Shadow Systems: basically a Glock with extra fluff. I think citizen is a better than “mall brands” by a decent bit. Especially Invicta ![]() |

The chronograph I hardly wear though and love my two divers watches. One looks just like my sieko dive watch I had in the Marines years ago. Zero maintenance on them too so far All are eco drive. I consider them like the guys who make bank but still drive a Subaru or Toyota. They like nice things, but they don't have to be expensive or showy. I always get compliments on them. At my last Job before I retired I was the only person with an analog watch in board meetings and started a trend away from smart watches with the coworkers. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/65995/IMG_0759_jpeg-3701449.JPG I have that same watch on my wrist right now! |

Thanks. |

| I typically wear an Apple Watch for convenience sake, but my wife got me a ProMaster Diver for our anniversary a number of years ago. I really like it and wear it if I’m away from home for more than a night. The only thing I dislike is that there’s no way to move the hour hand without moving the minute hand (or the date by itself), which would save me a lot of time when it dies and I have to spend 20min “catching up” to the correct date. |

Good video going into the philosophy behind citizen. I have a citizen nighthawk that I sometimes wear more than my breitling. I don’t need to wind it up and set the time, I just put it on and go. ![]() The Genius Engineering Behind Citizen Eco-Drive |

The one pictured is a stock photo. Mine was very scratched up. I have moved on to Casio, Luminox, and Breitling. My opinion is Citizen has good movements. The styling in general is close to good but always misses the mark in some respect that makes me not want to own the watches. ETA: I would buy one of these if I could find one for a discount. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/425157/1000019143_jpg-3730431.JPG I have a few Citizen watches, even have the blacked out one in this post. They’re a great value, excellent watches. Snobs will look down on you, but who cares. |

They do work if you have accurate points of reference. |
