The correct lead/tin ratio, combined with a temperature controlled soldering iron.

Flux is for those that don't know how to heat bridge and flow from the other side.

What type of solder are you referring to? Silver, lead, tin..etc..

You ever seen a grown man, high on metal fumes shooting up a public library?

I mean, luckily nobody goes to libraries so nobody was hurt, but I swear he put a bullet through the center of every O on the cover of every book in the Norwegian cooking section. You ever read Norwegian writing? YOU KNOW HOW MANY FUCKING O's THERE ARE IN IT? Dude just kept shooting, mag after mag after mag.

Based on my experience, according to the Army, things that do NOT make a good soldier are:

Intelligence

Critical Thinking Skills

Leadership

Initiative

Oh, he said solder. Holding the iron like this makes the best solder.

It was my experience that the very best soldiers all had impressive 2 mile run times and kissed the right asses.

But the key to a good solder is getting proper heat transfer and prepping the joint

I believe Colonel Sharpe answered the question in relation to the British forces deployed in the Spanish campaign.
