I'm in love with my 2002.
It's been long paid for and costs nothing but gas |

Quoted: GMT400 body styling/exterior size. I know that eliminates huge crumple zones and drastically reduces safety, but I don't care. Crew cab, 6.5' bed. Current 2500 HD underpinnings. Crate 572/auto trans drivetrain, for giggles. Maybe the 632, but the 572 has more support as of right now. 100% real leather for interior, current Denali seat design because it's super comfortable. Rest of the interior would be an upscaled GMT800 interior, bucket front seats with console. Mostly physical controls, digital dash and modest 8-10" screen worked in for CarPlay/Android Auto. Leather or wood or aluminum for all surfaces, not plastic. Forest Green Metallic exterior, a nice tan for the interior. View Quote You built a nice truck right there. |

My business partner got a TRX, but I had to settle for this because I have a trailer to tow. It's alright I guess.

2104 Ford Raptor SVT with the 6.2L V8. I don't care that the Gen 2 Raptors outperform the Gen 1. It puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it. I test drove a Gen 2 a few years back and it sounded like an overworked rice burner with a fart can. The 6.2L V8 is a stupid reliable engine as long as it's regularly maintained. I cannot be convinced that boosting a V6 is good for longevity. I've seen some of the Gen 1 Raports over on the Ford Raptor Forum going 300,000 plus miles.

Quoted: For your usage? The heavy 1/2 ton thread got me to thinking... I don't need a 3/4 or like the ride. Give me a heavy 1/2 that will tow and haul almost what a 3/4 will, turbo 6 with a small electric motor/battery running the front wheels for those rare occasions more power or 4wd is needed. Pop in one of the newer 9 or 10 speed transmission with a very low 1st gear and likely wouldn't even need a transfer case. If they could get rid of all the diesel emissions I'll take that option. I tow 4-6 times a year and if I need to haul I can use a trailer, and rarely use 4wd. The 1/2 should be a little easier to wheel around town and ride a bit better. I believe the older Honda hybrid has a small elec. motor about 12x2 that has been modified to produce 60kw's of power (80 hp). The elimination of the transfer case would help offset the cost and weight. Maybe a good idea? Likely not as adding complexity to a very tried and true system is simply asking for trouble. Audi is already running a 48v secondary system and many other brands have done a similar thing by using the alternator to drive the belt and add power. I know "if it doesn't have manual windows, rubber floor mat, vent windows and floor mounted hi beams I don't want it! View Quote I have a 2024 Chevy Silverado coming. It is a 2 door 2 wheel drive with the V8. It's on the ground but I'm having some things done before I pick it up. The box will get sprayed and the underbody will get undercoated along with some fender liners. It will have a satellite radio as well. That to me is the perfect pickup. kwg |

The new GMC Canyon loaded out, but LS 416+ cid rect port swapped with Dana 60's and an RPM built 6 speed, 1350 joints, and 40 more gallon aux tank in the bed.

If I was rich...
I would have a 1979-ish F250 crew cab body on a new-ish F250 Tremor chassis and 7.3L gas powertrain with modern seats and comforts. |

3/4 ton, mid sized diesel engine without DEF. Particulate filter isn't a deal breaker. 6-8ft bed, 4 doors for the kids, 4wd. Power windows, locks, maybe heated seats. None of the rest of the lane assist crap, etc. Aluminum body would be nice.

An F-350 (with the payload and towing specs of an F-350) that uses wizard juice to make it ride as nicely as an F-150 when unloaded.

My current truck!
F350 CrewCab, 8ft bed, 4x4, Dually w/ TowMax package (aka fatboy). 70gal fuel tank and a light 500/1000 tune has it right where I want it! |

Every truck is a compromise. You can't have just one....
From rigs designed to go through narrow 2 track trails through overgrown woods, to big wheeled rock crawlers, to trailer haulers, to do everything daily drivers.... |

I saw it the other day at a car show.
It was a 1982 Toyota 4x4 long bed pickup, with the 2.7L out of a recent model Tacoma swapped in. Looked factory AC was functional. Wasn't lifted tall, had quality suspension under it and some modest Recaro seats. |
|
It's been a pain in the ass but realistically, if I had another $5-8k to throw at my 2001 Suburban with rear barn doors I'd be perfectly happy. Needs new tires, I don't mind factory wheels but mine are worn, some body work, couple mechanical things. 265 BFGs or Toyos on 16x8 Mickey Classics is what I want, very classic look. It's got 125k miles, very solid driver but has had a ton of little problems and a really annoying electrical drain even after several 'fixes'. I also want to power wash and coat the frame before winter.
If I was buying a newer truck? A 2015ish F150 with the 5.0, extended cab, 6.5 bed would do all I need except be able to sleep in the bed. Gotta add 285s and a rear locker though. I've always wanted an F250. Solid axles, 6.2 or Godzilla, extended cab, 8 foot bed. Pull the bed and put a cargo cap on it and it could be a DD and a camping rig. 35s, factory 4.30s, dual selectable lockers and I'm fucking out of here. Dream truck? Find the cleanest, lowest mileage 5.4 Excursion I can find. Ditch the engine*, do a Godzilla swap, 35s and lockers, build out a minimal interior and once again I'm fucking gone. *It would be a shame to do that to a 7.3 diesel or even the V10 imo. |

2012 Colorado, I4, std. trans, 2wd or anything similar. Not a fucking thing that I cannot repair on that truck. Old and poor makes one look at things differently.

Right now I'd really like to have a nice clean low mile well maintained Ram 2500 Mega cab with a manual transmission outfitted with an oversized fuel tank and top of the line Carli suspension.
|
|
I'm driving it right now. F350 srw fwd double cab 6.2 with an electric locker 373 gears. Best truck I ever had. If it had a front air locker it would even be better.

I don’t tow or haul heavy stuff so a Toyota Tacoma or f150 are adequate for me. I really just need space to haul my stuff.
|

A brand new 2024 1 ton diesel single cab with a 8’ bed, 4wd, manual transmission, drum brakes, lockers, rubber mat, crank windows, vinyl bench seat, no electronics, high beams on the floor, tow mirrors, steel wheels, 12 ply tires, steel bumpers and light bars. MSRP of $8500 bucks
Shit I forgot dual fuel tanks and a snorkel. |

The taco is pretty well suited for my uses. I wouldn't mind having fox suspension, high clearance bumpers, and a go-fast camper though... |
