| What’s a good way to sell an engine? A friend of mine is donating an airplane to a museum. Since it’s just going to hang from the ceiling he swapped in a dummy engine. Now he has the original engine to sell. It’s a very, very nice Lycoming IO-540. The only aviation stuff that I have ever sold was solely word of mouth. |

It might be tough to get rid of. A friend is selling an IO-320 that he has borescope photos of the cam and bores, and it only has 125 hours on it before it was pickled. I think he's asking $22 or $24K, and he's had some tire-kickers, but nothing serious. He posted it on the board at OSH last week, and got three inquiries. It used to be that a used engine was the way to go, but the supply has really dried up, so most people are going with new engines, high costs and long lead times. Barnstormers, Van's Air Force, are two where you can advertise. Don't be surprised if you don't get much action. |

| Craigslist has an aviation section now. I don't know how effective it would be or if it has the same level of flakes as the other sections. You'd probably be able to get a local buyer and not have to deal with shipping though. |
