Sometimes when driving or walking out here in the American steppe I can't help but picture the landscape dotted with strange and exotic beasts. The pronghorns help. They're a vestigial remnant of a more savage time. Working my way through the trees to a pond, shotgun in hand and hoping to jump some ducks: "I hope a giant sloth isn't hanging out here... they can get a little mean in the fall and I don't have a tag for one." A fella would have to think a little harder about his load-out.
