Headed to Nc tomorrow in preps for rifle season opener. My buddy sends me this pic of a snapper outside his shop. I tell him to toss that bitch in a barrel so I can clean him out and butcher. Thinking Ill try my hand at some jerky with this one. Made a delicious piquant stew out of our last one years ago. What doth le’ hive think (stew or jerky)? |

I'd probably just leave it alone, but I did try turtle soup for the first time a few weeks ago and It was quite yummy.

I'll also eat it pickled right out of the jar. Just don't put that shit anywhere NEAR my gumbo. I don't give a shit about its history or origins in Gumbo As for the turtle ...I'd like to try this |

A while ago in my state they made a new snapping turtle law.
You could only catch snapping turtles in a trap or a net. No catching them on a hook and line. |

I've had snapping turtle jerky-go easy eating it. It's richer than you'd expect meat to be. |

Too much risk of losing fingers and a pain in the ass to clean. Turtle ain’t bad by any stretch, but still not worth the trouble to DIY.

Its interesting and the internals are fucking wild. I dont search/hunt them specifically to eat. This will be the second one I’ve messed with. Miles better than squirrel. I won’t eat possum or raccoon. Attached File Attached File Attached File Attached File |

Nice!! They are definitely built differently. I found a fresh dead one and have it decaying in the woods to display the shell but they are different than most turtles. Weird bones and the shells are surprisingly weaker to preserve

Also how did it taste? I’ve heard turtles have multiple flavors depending on the different cuts of meat you can get
