I have a upcoming hunt on a ranch and i am unsure of how the proccess will go down. But there is a posibility i might have some assistance from some guys with some of the labor involved. Its really a bit unknown how it will all go down. But thinking of bring a bottle or two of whiskey as a way to say thank you. I have no real idea if i will be own quarting a elk and packing it out or if one the ranch guys will be pulling it out in a truck with me on his day off. Regardless i would like to be prepared to say "thank you". What would be an appropriate bottle of whiskey? I dont think it needs to be fancy. But i dont want to be a cheap ass eather and give them a bottle of rock gut. Any suggestions? |

In this situation I would go for something like Bulleit (sort of a pun) Barrel Strength. Not cheap, not outrageous, definitely considered good by most, not your typical, always recommended Angel’s Envy (  ) and, most importantly, obtainable.

Mostly because it makes me think that that person earned that money and wants to show me how much they appreciate me. When I get gifts it makes me assume that they are regifting it. Most of the whiskey they have mentioned in here is like forty to sixty bucks... I'd rather have a crisp 50 dollar bill. |

Say one of them takes me out fishing on their day off in their drift boat just as two friends. We drink beer, fish bull shit and have a good time. It would feel more right to me to just do something nice for them like pick up the tab at the brewery on the way home. Or pick up a bottle of their favorite liquor. Handing them cash in that scenario kind of feels like it makes them my guide and me the client rather than just two guys out fishing. Just my opinion in that scenario. I dont disagree with you at all. My wife is the kind of persone that would always want cash over a gift and she worked in a industry where she got tips. So i do get it. Sorry to derail my own thread. But i am having fun pondering this now. Not sure why i think this way. Maybe i need to change my frame of mind about the topic. |
