I always love Chisum and McClintock. Growing up on those shows with my granddad I also enjoyed watching Hellfighters.

The Searchers.
Ethan Edwards was a complex character which Wayne ably portrayed. |

They Were Expendable - Original Theatrical Trailer The Fates of the Expendables. What happened to the PT boats of Squadron 3? |

It's really hard to pick one. Maybe a toss up between "Rio Bravo" and "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance."
|
|
True Grit
The Searchers Cowboys The Shootist Rio Lobo Comancheros probably a few more if I thought about it some more |
|
So many impossible to choose one.

Big Jake and Son’s of Katy Elder are a couple of my favorites.

|
The Searchers for quality cinema.
The War Wagon for sheer sixties western cliche'd goodness. |
|
|
Angel and the Badman would be my favorite.
Probably followed by The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and Rio Bravo. |

We do this a lot, so I’ll just say I love almost all of them
There’s a lesser known one named Island in the Sky that even Wayne fans might not have seen. It was tied up in some kind of legal issues so it didn’t make it into TV syndication where we’ve watched the others for decades. Aviation movie with a fantastic cast supporting the Duke. Recommended highly. |

They Were Expendable because it was the first John Wayne movie I had seen where he wasn't totally the Alpha guy. American forces were in retreat and he just had to go with the flow.
Stagecoach because it was his first major motion picture. The Shootist True Grit |
