I built this a while back, still seems to work fine and I use it every day for work. I don't game THAT much anymore, sort of thinking when this machine is no longer optimal I'd go back to a laptop then get an xbox for any games I might want to play. with a 3070FTW and 32GB of ram this thing will be gtg for at least another 5 years. ETA: only suggestion would be upgrading the mother board and processor to current gen. I have a 3060ti and 12th gen i7, literally plays everything at high graphics settings at 180hz refresh rate on a 2k monitor. There will be a new playstation and xbox console before what you listed starts to struggle with even AAA games. Consoles are becoming a racket, stick with PC gaming. |

When the minimum specs of the things you want to do are approaching the specs of your box is the time to upgrade if you're thrifty. When it's as above, but the recommended specs instead, that's really the time start planning and jump on spec matching bargains. This way you don't get in a time crunch. Your motherboard is an AM4, and that processor family is reaching its end. You can strap JATO bottles on what you have now by getting the hottest AM4 Processor ( https://rog.asus.com/us/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-b550-f-gaming-wi-fi-model/helpdesk_cpu/ ) it'll handle and as much and as fast DDR4 RAM ( https://rog.asus.com/us/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-b550-f-gaming-wi-fi-model/helpdesk_qvl_memory/ ) as will fit to buy yourself a few more years. -or- Start shopping for a new machine on an AM5 CPU and mobo with DDR5 RAM. I'm currently on a Ryzen 7 5800X with 64GB of 3600 RAM and a 3080, and it's adequate to run Star Citizen (at least for now), which is a pretty demanding game. When I go for the new build I'll likely move the 3080 over for a while an maybe throw a cheap Intel ARC card into the old box. |

Heres my thought: Use it until you run into performance issues. I used an old 8700k build with a 760 in it for a LONG time. Until I upgraded to a 1080 ti sometime in 2017. I rocked the 1080ti until I bought the 3080 when it came out. I upgraded my CPU when I got the 3080. Friend still rocking an 8700k CPU with a 1080ti card and plays most games even though the minimum says he shouldn't be able to. Minimum suggestion isn't always 100% correct and is there to make you think you need to upgrade to play that game. That said, most games coming out in the last year or so onward will use a ton of resources. I like my 3080, have no plans on upgrading any time soon. |
