I am aware of the fact that there are many who do not like sound doctrine, or any other doctrine. But, the fact remains that the Bible teaches sound doctrine.

John 7:15-17 ESV
[15] The Jews therefore marveled, saying, “How is it that this man has learning, when he has never studied?” [16] So Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me. [17] If anyone’s will is to do God’s will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority.
https://bible.com/bible/59/jhn.7.15-17.ESV
~ Jesus Son of Man Son of God

Sound doctrine is the whole truth of God in its entirety, the Apostle Paul declared that he was "innocent of the blood of all, for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God..."

Acts 20:25-32 ESV
[25] And now, behold, I know that none of you among whom I have gone about proclaiming the kingdom will see my face again. [26] Therefore I testify to you this day that I am innocent of the blood of all, [27] for I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God. [28] Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood. [29] I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; [30] and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them. [31] Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to admonish every one with tears. [32] And now I commend you to God and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

You're right, the doctrine is either sound or it is not. I could have worded that better or differently. To be clearer I'm implying the any other doctrine again to those that are unwilling to be taught, dull of hearing, hard-hearted or refuse instruction.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV
[16] All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, [17] that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Well, now that SCR556 seems to have abandoned the thread I guess its time for our usual talking heads to show up with their usual talking points.

But hey, the award for silliest post in thread can't be awarded until the thread's over so SCR556 might be redeemed.

Eastern Orthodox here.  Only God knows who will be saved, and He is not constrained by anything.  He can save who He wills.  This is why Jesus said there will be people who enter the Kingdom of God before others (defying our logic) and that "many who are last will be first."

I wasn't sure if you were addressing SCR556 here or me?

I thought this question might be forthcoming. Since you subscribe to a magisterium the RCC claims its authority. You might hold to your religion; but I hold to the Word of God as the ultimate authority. I stand on/ in His Word

First, I wanted to mention Brian has a really good post on the previous page (I whole heartedly agree with) on the deity of the Lord Jesus Christ. I love the brethren. The only thing we'll be known for is our Love, God bless you.

The authority is God's Word. We have the gift of Holy Spirit, He will always agree with His Word. We have what is written, the Holy Spirit is the author. We need only look to the Scriptures; the whole counsel of God. The Holy Spirit is our witness.

If what someone is proclaiming does not align with the Truth. We have the more sure Word ...

2 Peter 1:19-21 ESV
[19] And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, [20] knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. [21] For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
https://bible.com/bible/59/2pe.1.19-21.ESV
~ Peter the Lord's Apostle

John 1:1-2 ESV
[1]  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2] He was in the beginning with God.
https://bible.com/bible/59/jhn.1.1-2.ESV

God has given us everything we need, He's given us His Word!

His name is called the Word of God.

Revelation 22:13 ESV
[13] I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”

Pay careful attention:
Institutions might teach, shepherd (pastor), and administer ordinances (baptism, the Lord's Supper etc.). However, they do not own, direct, or restrict the Spirit of the living God.

No religious institution controls the Holy Spirit or holds exclusive claim to His will. He is God.

You were bought with a price... I am His bond-servant.

Read this verse today and couldn’t help thinking about this thread.

And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, to know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. -1 John 5:20

Explicitly calling the Son of God Jesus Christ the true God.

Fr. Haydock, in his commentary, simply writes about the verse:

“Which words are a clear proof of Christ's divinity, and as such made use of by the ancient Fathers.”

Which is true. Both St. Athanasius and St. Augustine cite the verse directly (among many, many others) in condemnation of Arius.

It is not that I’m surprised someone would deny Christ’s divinity, it is after all a very ancient and pervasive heresy.

I’m perplexed by the audacity in the face of scripture and sacred tradition in order to claim it to be so.

At least the Muslims have the good sense to make the false claim of our scriptures having been corrupted rather than try to work around what the text clearly states.

Jesus is the Judge of the living and of the dead.

Back to the question at hand, "who are the souls that are saved?" This is what the Catholic Church says, in summary:

“Outside the Church there is no salvation”

This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church:

Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience—those too may achieve eternal salvation.

“Although in ways known to himself God can lead those who, through no fault of their own, are ignorant of the Gospel, to that faith without which it is impossible to please him, the Church still has the obligation and also the sacred right to evangelize all men” (CCC 847-848).

Pope Pius IX  in his encyclical Quanto Conficiamur Moerore (August 10, 1863): There are, of course, those who are struggling with invincible ignorance about our most holy religion. Sincerely observing the natural law and its precepts inscribed by God on all hearts and ready to obey God, they live honest lives and are able to attain eternal life by the efficacious virtue of divine light and grace. Because God knows, searches and clearly understands the minds, hearts, thoughts, and nature of all, his supreme kindness and clemency do not permit anyone at all who is not guilty of deliberate sin to suffer eternal punishments.

And yes, Jesus is our judge.

"He ascended into heaven and it is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from thence He will come to judge the living and the dead."

Well, now that SCR556 seems to have abandoned the thread I guess its time for our usual talking heads to show up with their usual talking points.

But hey, the award for silliest post in thread can't be awarded until the thread's over so SCR556 might be redeemed.

Not sure what I've done to piss you off, brother.

I’m just appreciating the actual irony in this thread.

And it has nothing to do with sola scriptura.

At least three people are appealing to the authority of scripture and coming to wildly different conclusions, Bishop3 for example: "The authority is God's Word. We have the gift of Holy Spirit, He will always agree with His Word. We have what is written, the Holy Spirit is the author. We need only look to the Scriptures; the whole counsel of God. The Holy Spirit is our witness."

To try and use scripture to counter SCR556s argument isn't going to work, he has already corrupted it in his mind.  A different method is needed and I did a poor job of recommending that to Bishop.  You can quote Jesus saying He is God in His own words and he won't comprehend it.

The message was a secret, but it is now fully revealed.

But what does it say...?

Colossians 1:25-27 ESV
[25] ...of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God that was given to me for you, to make the word of God fully known, [26] the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints. [27] To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
https://bible.com/bible/59/col.1.25-27.ESV

2 Corinthians 4:2-4, 18 ESV
[2] But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. [3] And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. [4] In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. ---
[18] as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

Of course it's fully revealed, again, no one is claiming otherwise; but that doesn't mean it is properly understood by all who read it.

Im aware that no amount of evidence is going to sway SCR556.  Dispensationalism, especially his brand of it, is a self sealing ideology.  That means that it establishes a set of beliefs that it determines to be right and epistemologically closes itself to any outside information that does not affirm those pre existing beliefs.  Because it cannot admit that it is wrong without endangering the whole system, it engages in ad hoc thinking causing it to become more and more ideologically inbred with each generation of thinkers, eventually leading to it becoming entirely divorced from reality.  That's why its not really all that hard to chart Dispensationalism's development from people like Darby to Chafer to Bullinger to Wierwille.  Unfortunately, once someone buys into this kind of a system its almost impossible for them to cash out of it, no matter what method is used, because admitting that  something in the system is wrong endangers the system and threatens a major loss of personal identity.

The great irony of all of that is that, as another self sealing ideology, that's also the story of Roman Catholicism.
