Things I observed from my league play tonight: 1. We play match play. My opponent taps in for 8. I run my birdie putt about 12" by. He makes me hit the 12" putt for par. I even look at him as I'm walking up my ball, so I go ahead and mark it and go through my full routine, just to make him wait. 2. There is a par 4 that plays way down hill. My partner (just my partner on my team, we have 2 man teams but do match play individual against the other team) has like 171 to middle. Guy on other team says "You have 189, and it plays like 195". I ask opponent, "how does that play farther? It's like at least one club downhill ? " Opponent looks at me and says "that's what my phone says". We have all been playing this course for at least like six years. 3. We have the first tee time in our league at 4:45pm. At 4:35pm, I observe two fivesomes rush up to the tee and tee off. Not in our league, right in front of us. 4. Opponent has a normal 120 yard iron shot from middle of fairway. The ball is maybe 1 inch above his feet. He misses the green by, no shit, 30 yards left. Says that it was a "hook lie" and that's why it went so far left. 5. The golf course is wet, so we are playing lift clean and place. Opponent hits tee shot into rough. Marks it, cleans the ball. Places ball back on ground in fairway. 6. My opponent plays all iron shots off his BACK foot. Hits 4 iron about 3 feet off the ground. Can't figure out why.... People used to think Hogan was a dick when he wouldn't speak to his opponents during a round. The older I get I think I understand him now. |

Played 2 rounds on my work trip… 1st round was at a super nice CC designed by Gary Player and I couldn’t hit a tee shot to save my life. You’d think I was a 20HCP off the tee. Also it was a brutal course, the Whites were 6700 yards and a 73.4/133. I think the tips were a 77 or 78 and 7500 yards with a 140+ slope. Today, we played a really trashy muni course with the team, and I was hitting every fairway and hitting big shots. Golf is fun… So the sales guys we work with all think I’m trash at golf and all of my colleagues think I’m a golfing guru. |

Played my local men’s league today. There’s a short par 3 (158 downhill plays like 140-145). Hit a nice high draw that carried about 153 with some draw spin in it and stopped 14” short. I think my HR spiked from 80 to 180 for about 10 seconds when it looked like it dropped and I grabbed my range finder to see it just short of the hole. Would’ve been my first ace but I guess that will wait for another day. Attached File |

I've hit the stick 2 times on par 3's prior to this but those shots usually end up 10+ feet away after the ricochet. This one landed short right and just checked a bit too much! After shooting a 43 in the league last week after a terrible starting set of holes, I carded a 37 yesterday with 3 birdies and 4 bogies which just shows how funny golf is as a ~9HCP. My driver was weak and pushy (yes the new one I got fit for XD) but I was hitting mid irons extremely well and I had 13 putts on 9 holes which is a new all time record. |

I played today with the usual Wednesday group of guys. It was 49F, cloudy and windy AF. I wore all the layers I brought and it was still cold. Needless to say, I was not proud of my score, which will remain confidential for the time being Nobody played well. Everybody was freezing. But I did hit those handful of shots that bring me back for more. |

It’s been a struggle lately. Both doubles came because I hit it in the trees. Was mid 60’s and a brisk NW wind steady at 10 with gusts. Our course isn’t very long but it’s fairly narrow with huge trees on the front side that line all the fairways. So once you’re out of position you’re burning at least one stroke to punch out to the fairway. Putting was good, only 2 fairways and 2 GIR. Did have a short chip in for par. Attached File |

Started out OK yesterday with a 39 on the front, went backwards on the back and shot 44, temps were dropping and it was sprinkling but not an excuse. Driver went cold for a bit and that was the issue. |

Played the TPC Champions course in Scottsdale for the first time yesterday. It was just about the best tee to green ball striking round of my life. Crushed the driver, hit every single fairway and almost all greens in regulation or under. Problem for me was the greens were perfect and VERY fast, something I'm not used to and have not played on for decades. Seriously, I don't know how they can get grass that perfect. I was hitting 20 foot putts 10 feet past the hole and then overcompensated by hitting 20 foot putts way short. I probably had about 40 putts and shot 82, so not too bad for an old guy (71) like me. I probably should have spent some time on the putting green prior to playing as it could have been a really low round. Fairways were perfect as well and the entire property is really nice. Great course and reasonable at $100 on a weekday early morning. Highly recommend. |

Played 3 rounds at Firekeeper in Mayetta KS this week. They hosted a US open qualifier last week and still haven’t mowed the rough due to rain. It was also very wet still so there was zero roll out so it played long. 92-91-89 What killed me was 3 putts. 5-6 every round. Home course doesn’t have breaks like these. Lot of 3-5 footers that break 4-5 inches. Some of its pace and confidence. You can hammer it and negate a lot of that break but if you miss you’re going to have 3-4 feet coming back. |

Played Newport Golf Club on Wednesday. It was in the low 90s and humid as hell. That's my excuse I was doing great early on but the heat and humidity got to me and I faded fast the last 5 holes. Shot a 94.  I also couldn't seem to read a green to save my life. But I did drive the ball extremely well.Good thing I do this for fun and exercise and not to make a living. |

Top 9 move on to Nationals to be held in September at the Barefoot Resort & Golf in Myrtle Beach. Finished tied for 6th so onward to Myrtle Beach. Attached File |

I played a round with the regular Wednesday noon group of guys today. I shot my lowest score ever, 82.  There were a few blunders so I know I could have finally broken 80 with a little luck. No triple bogeys, no blow up holes. These are the sort of rounds that keep you coming back for more abuse
