Think about it this way... Click To View Spoiler Since we all know the backstory for that, we might see it as goofy and endearing, but if we somehow didn't know the backstory and it hadn't been explained, wouldn't we be more likely to see it as dorky and weird? I think the manga author's decision to hold off on the reveal as long as they did, was a mistake, and the anime seems to be working toward doing the reveal quicker than the manga did, but will viewers have the attention span to hang around long enough for the reveal, before they start bashing the show? |

You said the reason people didn't like Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie is because people don't like waifus that come with a difficult past and they don't like badass waifus. If you think the manga author should have done X or the anime writer should have done Y, that's fine, but Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie seems to be getting a lot more hate than many anticipated and I don't think the reason for it is that people don't like waifus that come with a difficult past and they don't like badass waifus. It is oddly satisfying to watch the protagonists in Skeleton Knight in Another World just hack bandits and slavers down without getting angsty about it. Oh your a bandit/slaver? THUNK, now you are a dead bandit/slaver... ooh you don't need this gold any more, I guess that means it's my gold!

Some random observations:
1 - Skeletor dude has a strange and annoying laugh 2 - The smiling cloud figure in the opening credits should definitely get a show of his own 3 - Elves will be elves. Dark elves will be dark elves. 4 - Ventu vulpis: Do they ever say anything besides “Kyuuuu” or “Kyuuuu kyuuuu”? It must be a very cushy gig for a VA to pick up that role - but it probably comes with a danger of becoming typecast which could limit their ability to get work. |

So, I'm caught up with the light novels (vol 9) for 86 and poor Shin and Lena are gonna have a long road ahead of them on figuring out their relationship. Now I'm in limbo of no new books until next month and no new anime until who knows when/if.
