The further back you go, the more branches of ancestors you have.
My family tree, on the main patrilineal line, goes back to Wales. It's connected to the semi-mythological Welsh royal genealogies, and goes back far enough to include several kings and prominent Biblical people. The most ancient ancestor on my tree is Adam from Eden. Familysearch.org is great for this stuff. |

German father's side I have a lot of ancestry traced dating back to the 1500's on my dad's side. When my grandfather joined the SS he had to prove his ancestry was German back to the 1700's and that he had no Jewish ancestors.
Irish Spanish and German on my mom's side I can trace her ancestry all the way back to the 1700's. Interesting fact my mom's ancestor was the mayor of San Antonio back when it was a Spanish colony. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juan_Curbelo_(Tejano_settler) |
|
My father's family are on the official rolls as titled gentry in the UK. I also had a direct ancestor on my father's side who died fighting in the American Revolution as a captain with a British Dragoon unit.
Unfortunately, my father is the second son, and his older brother has a son. But if something were to happen to both of them, I'd have a need for new business cards in the future... |

English, Scottish, French, and German.
My mother's grandparents came from Germany just before WW1. My great grandfather was an engineer and fiercely Catholic. My grandfather married a Protestant woman who had previously been divorced and my great grandparents literally disowned him over it. My father's side of the family came to the American colonies in 1647. Prior to that they lived in Tyringham, England, a small village. My ancestor was in charge of the day to day agricultural operations for the Lord of that area at the time, but he fell out of favor with that Lord and was sued by the Lord. Since my ancestor wasn't a Lord he couldn't even plead his case in the Court and a judgment was issued against him. Apparently, he was pretty upset by that and decided to go to the Colonies with his entire family to seek out a better life. The ship they traveled to Hartford, CT on was smaller than the Mayflower. I can trace my Father's side back to the Doomsday book. I cannot go further back due to lack of detailed record keeping prior to that time. |

Spics, wops, injuns and honkeys — man I wish I had some n-word in there... maybe a 23-and-me will reveal I get to use that word.
