I notice that foam type shaving cream is disappearing from stores. I have tried the gel type, but never liked it. Yeah, I can still find foam Barbasol and Walmart store brand, but major companies like Gillette and Shick seem to be dropping the foam type and filling shelves with the gel type. Is it because most folks prefer the gel? Or is it because the companies make more money on gel? For a while, I noticed that the women's shaving section still stocked lots of foam type shaving cream but lately that has gone to mostly gel as well. |

| Can't help you, I went from barbasol to shaving soap years and never looked back. Good badger brush and good soap makes shaving not so much a chore. |

| Maybe I was doing it wrong but whrn I used the Nivea shaving gel in the can I'd rub it in my palm until it was foamy like the regular old barbasol. I thought it was a bit slicker and cushiony than regular foam but I didn't pay much attention, I could use either one interchangeably. The foam types were a bit too dry for my taste though. |

| Not entirely sure what you would classify it as, but I've had a tube of Cremo concentrated shave cream for over a year now. It's not a traditional aerosol shave cream, comes out like a gel, and then lathers up. It's advertised as a 90 day supply, but I shave almost daily and would estimate I still have a quarter of the tube left. I give it a solid 7/10. |

| I'm a shower shaver and just use a little conditioner and a really old knockoff mach3 disposable razor once a week. Previously I used shaving soap and a badger brush with a safety razor. That's a lot of work I'm lazy and don't care if I have a close shave. |

I use the Harrys shave gel. I thought it was weird at first, but it foams up ALOT for the little gel that the can dispenses. The can lasts a long time. |

I like the arko stick for my travel kit. Cremo is actually stocked in the drug store and supermarkets now. A warm brush and a hard soap or cream is pretty enjoyable for shaving. ETA. I used Edge gel since it came out before ten years ago dropping it for a badger brush and hard soaps and creams. Williams soap is in every drug store and is cheap. No scent,....but did I say it was cheap?  . I usually keep a cake or two of williams as a back up if I run out of whatever else I had been using. It has no scent really so it doesn’t fade on the shelf. I haven’t bought any Taylor of Old Bond Street type stuff in years. You don’t have to go the snob route.

The sheer variety of proper shave soaps out there these days is incredible. Get a brush, do it right. You don't need to overly fetishize it like the millennial crowd. No need to go all straight razor crazy. But, lather that shit in right and you'll wonder why you ever sprayed anything onto your hands. |

I've used a safety razor for the past 10 years. usually I use soap and a brush but have been using the Gillette Pure cream (yes, I know Gillette..) and a I have absolutely been impressed with it. I also really like the Van Der Hagan Shave butter.. that stuff is awesome if I'm in a hurry and don't want to whip up a lather (that Gillette Pure lathers well) When I travel I use the Nivea 3 in 1 shower, shampoo and shave.. that shit is amazing. Not only is it a great body wash and shampoo that you shave with.. it takes out stains in cloths and you can use it as a hand soap in the winter that doesn't dry your skin. Its hella slick to shave with too. |

Gel probably has fewer applications per unit over foam. Foam is some soapy stuff and gas. Gel is mostly soapy stuff. There is more weight in gel used to shave, which means less uses from the can. Which means you gotta buy it more often, which means more profit. Just like candy bars going up in price slightly but the size going from 16 oz down to 10 oz. |
