Someone reads a great novel, or trilogy, says, "Man this is brilliant! Will make a great movie!"

Then step one is to chuck the whole thing in the bin, except the character names and maybe a few unimportant details, and step two is write some other story entirely. WTF?

The people making the movies don't give a shit about the book. They just make money making movies. Name a movie made from a book that was a real passion project, produced and directed by a super-fan of the original.

Whoever wrote and directed the Dark Tower movie needs to be drawn and quartered

On the flipside, The Watchmen was actually really great. Especially the long ass Ultimate Cut. Really did it justice.

Effort, of the physical kind is lacking in the types who make movies.  They just want to dress some nobody in an iconic way, have them spew a few lines their buddies said were cool and employ the tech guys to cgi everything.

This is just part of the reason I have not seen any movies in the last 5 years, would be more but Wife still likes them.

It’s been a while, but I recall thinking Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” did a pretty decent job of being made into a movie.

What I'm watching is Earthsea It's a series from the SCiFi channel. So I'm thinking cool. I loved those books. They've got a whole season to do it right.

Nope. So far as I can tell it bears no resemblance whatsoever. It's not even vaguely the same story.

Just thought of another: The Shawshank Redemption

Don't tell me it can't be done, because it has been many times and they are almost always great movies. It's just not at all usual, and it winds up another steaming pile of shit every time, but hey, you rope in all those fans that came to see the book and got Ass! instead.

It's the retardedest way of making money I ever heard of. If you made the story as close as you can to the books, it would coin money. That's what the fans of a book that's been continuously in print for ~50 years want to see.

Harry Potter got better as the movies progressed.

The first few were shit if we are being honest.

They also left out yuuuuuge chunks of the books.

The last movie was pretty legit tho.

This one has taken a genuinely unique and original classic, and now it's a story about a broken amulet, an evil king, and the wizard boy that saves it. It's literally a tired cliche in a base literary sense.

Hollyweird makes movies with violence, gratuitous sex and an overarching (oh how I loathe that word) SJW message.

All stories must be modified to incorporate the above in a 90 minute timespan, 87 minutes of which is bad CGI.

They had to, that's a given. Books are hundreds of pages and scripts are about 60, max. But they followed the story.

Modern people don't know how to relate to the world around them without the use of a screen?

They didn't butcher it, I'll concede that.

It could be done better now if the want was there as 2.5 hour movies are more common then they were when Harry Potter was first released.

Fucking choke yourself.

Starship Troopers was made specifically to defile the concepts presented in the Starship Troopers book.

It's an abomination only a disgusting commie could manifest into existence.

All copies should be burnt.

I'm actually not mad they wanted to do another story. Write a fuckin story, make a fun show. Don't tell me your doing Earthsea, based on the A Wizard Of Earthsea trilogy by Ursula K. LeGuin and then the only thing similar is a few character names and the geography. That means you bought the rights so no one else can ever do it properly, and you didn't do it either, so now it's never going to be done and you cheated me. Fuckers. Why did you bother to even reference it if you had no intention of even trying to do it at all?

Perfect example. They never used the Heinlein Novel, that movie was already made as an original, and they only bought the rights because there were a few superficial similarities. The faggy ass SJW french Dutch director never even read it at all.

Edit, French, Dutch, Belgian, whatever.

ST was made as "The Bug War" or some shit. They bought the Heinlein rights after it was almost finished with principle photography when someone, I forget who, pointed out the similarities. The director never read it. Nor the writers.

It's like making a dessert with raisins, cinnamon, thin pancakes, and maple syrup, on stewed prunes, but you call it "chocolate pudding" on the menu. That's what pisses me off. There is already a dessert called chocolate pudding. Your stewed prunes and raisins mess may be a perfectly nice dessert, but it isn't chocolate pudding, so don't call it that. People who want chocolate pudding are going to hate you when they get something else entirely.
