I need a new set if AT tires for my 80 series Land Cruiser. I would like to go with a "aggressive" AT but i am very limited by needing them to be 3 peak snow rated. I am pretty well settled on one of these three tires. I currently have a set of 315/75/16 Toyo AT3 on the truck. They have been one of the best tires i have had on the truck. Good enough off road, held up to a crap tone of dirt roads and ranch roads, worked well when i did go wheeling, no side wall damage or trail damage, over 50,000 miles on them and they still role fine with no excesive vibrations or cupping. Basicly they have worn great and held up well. They were OK in snow and stuff but living in MT i am always looking for something better for snowy roads to stay safe in the winter. Really interested in the wildpeaks and would like feedback on them. If i go wildpeak or the Toyo i could stick with the 315/75/16 i have or drop down to 285/75/16 i used to run. Honestly i use the vehicle more for traveling and dirt roads than hard wheeling these days. And when i used to do a lot of wheeling i went some crazy placed on 285s. So i am not really opposed to 285s. I read about the MT Baja ATs and they are what i think i really want. I hear nothing but good things. But i do need to make sure they do at least as well as the others in snow. They look to have very good stiping on them so that should help. But they also look like the side wals and tread pattern might also work well off road. If i went MT i would have to drop down to 285/75. I am on the fence about that but not really opposed to it. I think the 285/75/16 with the small lift i have is kind of a classic size on the FJ80. And the truck has full armor, M1200 winch, triple lockers and so on, still plenty capable. Please let me know what you think of any of these three tires. I am really obsessing over this desision. |
| We have Wildpeaks on a 4Runner in Bozeman. I don't like them in the snow. Toyo AT3s on a Land Cruiser 200 series and a RWD sprinter van. I am a huge van of the Toyos. Great in the snow and decent a/t tire. |

| I've been running the MT Baja ATZ P3 E load on my 4Runner for the past 25k miles or so. I wheel pretty hard in the desert southwest, so rocks, sand, sharp abrasive stuff but no snow or mud to speak of. They've held up great, never gotten a flat despite all the guys I wheel with who run BFGs blowing shit all the time. They're wearing pretty well too. I'd buy them again for whatever that's worth. |

But i am always looking to find something "better". |

Everything i have read about the MT sounds great. I think if it came in all the sizes i wanted i would 100% try it out. But as it is in a 16" i would need to down size a little bit. I think i am trying to convince myself to go back to a smaller tire. The smaller 285 is still almost a 33 so its not like it is a tiny tire. Also, whenni got the truck 10 years ago it had BFG KO2s. I went some amazing places with a stock hight truck on 33s. But i did slice one of those side walls pretty bad on the BFG. |

There are actually four variants of the Wildpeak A/T4W: [Standard] Duraspec HD HD Duraspec [Standard] tends to be 4-ply while Duraspec is usually 6-ply. HD and HD Duraspec are both 10-ply. People saying the A/T4W is bad in the snow are usually running a 10-ply tire on a lightweight vehicle. People saying the A/T4W is awesome in the snow are either running the 4-ply on a light vehicle or running the 10-ply on a HD truck. I can't really find anything about 6-ply on a light vehicle. Mine are stock-sized 265/70R17, [Standard] variant, and I have no complaints about them whatever. Wet traction is phenomenal. When we got several inches of snow last winter, I tried them out and didn't even need 4x4 and that was with nothing in the bed. I'll also point out that with a 4-ply rating, they (for some reason), have a higher load rating than the 6-ply KO2s. EDIT: 10-ply KO2s on a half-ton are absolutely useless on wet pavement. Their traction in this scenario compares with their traction on loose gravel. There are few things that have been in my life that I was happier to get rid of. |
